Recommended Posts

South American cruising is still on my bucket list. Nice to see others experiences on it..I wonder what ship Princess will dedicate now that Golden will spend the season down under...

We were on same cruise and enjoyed it thoroughly. Fletch1 (Russell from OZ) did a great job organizing the M&G. He printed out name tags for all that had both their names and screen names on them.

We posted a story and pictures on our website. We are always happy to answer any questions.

Thanks Karate Man, great photos...what kind of camera do you use...

kind regards, Lorraine :):):)

I use a Canon EOS 6D. It is the latest model with full frame sensor (35mm), inbuilt GPS, and WiFi capability. I also use the Canon L series lens which improves image quality.

There are more photos to come as well as video that I have made of certain shows.

Up to Lima now we stopped there for two days from the port of Callao. I did Princess excursions as per usual. Not speaking any Spanish I considered it somewhat harder to tour on my own in cities where safety warnings are prevalent.

I did the Princess tour Pachacamac Ruins and Peruvian Prancing Horses.

Do not expect the tours in Lima to be on time or follow the correct itinerary. The traffic is bad. You will be late everywhere.

Sadly I did not appreciate the tour guide on this day as she had an awful habit of non stop talking. Everything that came out of her mouth was mindless dribble about nonsensical garbage that had nothing to do with the theme of the tour. This irritated many passengers and even at the city museum she stood in front of a timeline painting lecturing non stop for 20 minutes. It is akin to a form of verbal torture. Enough to ruin your day. I did complain to Princess about her and it is not normal that I ever complain and all they did was fob it off to the company and refuse to accept responsibility.

That same evening in Lima a local group of performers came on board the ship to perform some folkloric dances. Their name was Incamerica.

The first sitting was packed out so I had to go to the late sitting. On arrival in the theatre I get a good seat. The seat next to me is vacant. Not long before the show another passenger entered (a man), and he looked at my camera and started abusing me non stop for having a camera in the theatre.

Who the hell was he another passenger to dare abuse me for holding a camera and how dare he insult and make presumptions about another passenger. It was none of his business.

Obviously with local performers you are free to take as many photos as you like. My camera does not have a flash so it is no problem and as a photographer I know all the worldwide laws on photography and knew I had every right to take photos.

This imbecile would not shut up. He was rude, obnoxious and kept asking why I had my camera and kept asking what I would do with it. First I tell him to shut up and mind his own business. It failed to work. Next I pull out my black cruise card and tell him I have done much more cruises than his card hanging around his neck indicated he had done and I knew all the rules. He still would not shut up. Eventually I locked eye contact with him and told him that he is going to get up and leave the theatre this instance of things would turn nasty. I told him what I would do to him if he did not leave. He agreed it was best for him to leave and got up and walked away.

On a separate note a few friends I met believe they had met him previously and think he had some sort of mental illness as he matched the description of a man who abused a group of four passengers in the vista lounge before a show when a woman got up to use the toilet. He accused them of reserving seats which was against the rules, sat down in her spot and kept abusing them. She returned and the all made space. For the entire show he kept on abusing this poor woman and her group for reserving seats.

The story is similar and the physical description matched so we assumed he was the same sick twisted individual.

That aside I did get some good photos of the performance.

After Lima it was three days at sea before Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

A common site in each port from here on was the ambulance taking passengers away. The entire ship was woken up a few nights before with loud announcements into the cabins about a medical emergency. There was a virus going around and many people got sick. I believe the passenger status only got to code yellow where as the crew were elevated to code red. Many of the crew were given influenza vaccinations around this time.

Fortunately I breezed through the entire holiday without getting sick.

By this stage of the cruise I was tired of long excursions so just did the Scarlet Macaw sanctuary and a mangrove cruise. As much as I liked exploring I really wanted a short tour and not a long day.

I had the Captains Circle lunch that same day as I saw the birds. It was good to go on both occasions and met lots of nice people. Many in that group often spoke around the ship and it felt good to be a part of it. A funny story to tell is that the Circle Host had a couple question her about my presence in the group. She was asked why she invited "her boyfriend" into the luncheon. It was funny to hear and she had even told the Captain about it. Twelve years of cruising will put you in that club and the maths are not hard to work out.

The final touring port of the cruise was Cabo San Lucas.

What wonderful photos. You must have a good quality camera. :)

Nice to see photos of the two ships that will be cruising in our waters next season.

We would love to do that itinerary, such interesting ports of call. :)

Thanks for sharing your photos.

Jill :)
