If you have sailed the Sunshine...Please comment on the odor issue

I am looking at booking a cruise on the Sunshine, and am researching to determine which cabin to select. There are so many posts about the sewage smells in the halls and in the cabins. And there are just about as many comments stating they never smelled the odors. So apparently, there must be good cabin locations and bad cabin locations in regards to sewer odor.

I considering one of the forward Picture Window (obstructed view) cabins on Deck 3 just forward of Guest Services. This is a convenient location and has the larger quad cabins with sofa bed for an Inside cabin price. I have found one post that said to stay away from one cabin in this area (cabin 3107) due to smell.

I think it would be beneficial to future Sunshine cruisers for past cruisers to compile a list of good and bad locations. If you would, please, list as much as you can remember about your cabin: # , type, deck locations (aft, mid, forward), and whether or not there was a sewer odor issue near your cabin. Was it the entire cruise, or limited to certain times? It may help to include date of sailing, as I suspect (or hope rather) that Carnival has tried to improve the odor conditions.

Thanks!

We were forward on Lido (deck 9) and never smelled any bad odors there. I can't recall if we were in any areas of the ship where anything was bad.

For what it's worth, there have been times on every ship that we've sailed that we smelled a bit of sewage odor in places. Never anything that hung around. It wouldn't bother us unless it lingered or was in an eating area.

We sailed in April. I never noticed any smells in hallways, but we didn't notice a smell a couple of times when on deck 5 right outside of the shops. Nothing that lingered, and certainly did not ruin our cruise! I loved the ship and would sail on her again in a minute!!!

We were on the repo cruise in April and the smell was pretty bad when you went out on deck 3 and sometimes in the lounge. We were having dinner one night and a couple said that they were moved from their cabin on deck 3 do to the smell, they were not happy. Hope this helps.

We sailed the Sunshine in Feb. Deck 6- Forward- Picture window room. Never had an odor. There are always spots that seem to have smells, but I don't recall any lingering bad places.

But I always choose higher decks when possible, because the times I have had issues with the smells were on lower decks.

I'm sailing on the Sunshine tomorrow in a cabin on the Lido deck and will be happy to report back when I return. On the Dream last October I was on the Riviera deck and got a whiff a couple times but certainly nothing that lingered or made the trip unpleasant ~ I think you have to expect smells occasionally due to the self contained sewer system!

Was on her New Orleans inaugural cruise in Nov. Just like most people here we never smelled any odors. As a matter of fact, we had a large group spread out on all floors and no one encountered any out of the ordinary odors. Most people that talk about these mysterious odors have never stepped foot on the Sunshine. They write about the smell because they "heard" someone mention it. Beautiful ship... enjoy!

We were balcony port side near Atrium on Deck 8. Never smelled anything bad there. Did occasionally get a whiff while walking down different decks, but I've experienced that on virtually every ship we've sailed. I wouldn't be concerned.

Two weeks ago, Spa balcony deck 11 forward, no odors. For that matter nothing on the ship ... Except the occasional guest wearing WAY too much perfume.

This was the third ship I've been on where I'd read complaints of sewage smells and did not experience it at all. I would not stress out about it.

Loved the ship and would sail on her again in a heartbeat.

I was on the sailing with BSQ^^ cabin 2121 and I never smelled anything. Last cruise was the Grandeur of the Seas, another notorious "stinker", also nothing. I have experienced occasional odors on other ships , like others have posted, nothing to worry about.

We were on the repo from Nola to Port Canaveral. There was a sewage smell on deck 3&4 starboard side. From when we left till St Thomas (day 8).They did something and after that no smells last two days at sea. Never smelled anything in the halls or our room deck 7 port mid to rear part of ship. Ship was very nice great food options. Wonderful crew and CD.

We were on the Sunshine in January. We were deck 7 midship. No smell up there. The only place I noticed a smell was on deck 5 and only between the coffee shop and the casino bar. That is probably only 20 feet. And other than right in that area we didn't have any odor issues. And there is really nothing there so we only noticed when walking by. The Sunshine is my favorite ship and I can't wait to sail her again in 175 days!

We sailed Sunshine last year in the Med. I don't remember any lingering smells. On most ships when we have walked around decks with cabins on there are usually some smells.

I have a theory about used coffee grinds beginning to smell bad..many Starbucks and other nice coffee houses I have been in often have a bad smell somewhere that is not the good coffee smell....I love what folks are doing here....why not know the possible areas and not damn the ship!! Thanks OP!!

We were on the Sunshine for 2 weeks in January in a 4J (forward Deck 6) - no smells at all except some awesome food odors...

EXCEPT! For some reason, every morning 5 - 15 minutes after I got up, there was a strong "sewer" smell in my bathroom. Go figure. :p

We were on the Sunshine for 6 days last November, 2nd floor stateroom, again for 14 days in February, 8th floor stateroom, and again for 11 days in April, 6th floor stateroom. We did not notice any unusual odors during any of these 31 days aboard the Sunshine.
