Arriving in New York

Can anyone tell me what time the transatlantic crossings generally arrive in New York?

Is the question more appropriately .. what time does disembarkation begin??

These are two totally different answers.

Ships arrive based on tides and other factors.

Passengers are let off the ship once the ship has cleared local Immigration requirements AND all passengers have closed/paid their onboard charge accounts. NO ONE gets off the ship until the government says so .. and the accounting department says so!

I recall other cruises arriving Miami at 4am and being tied to the dock by 5am only to have them repeated page certain passengers to come to the Purser's office. YES we were delayed from the 'planned' time of say 8:30am until 9:30am since one passenger was still sleeping off the last night of bar-tabs.

We were at the pier by 6:30 AM, but we were in one of the last groups to be allowed off of the ship - around 10:30 AM. They do ask you (during the crossing) to let them know by a certain time if you need to disembark earlier than your assigned group. Your group is assigned by your deck number and whether or not you are using Cunard transportation or are on a tour, etc. We were asked to be out of our stateroom by 8:30 AM, and many of us sat in the Winter Garden until our group was called. All of this was AFTER we had been cleared by the US Customs officials on board. If you had to pay Duty, this was done after you retrieved your bags from the pier (bags were placed in color-coded locations). There were lots of porters to help get your luggage to the taxi stand. The porter gave us a number from the "Taxi Master," and we were assigned a taxi when our number was called. We were in the "Self-Disembarkation" group.

Hope this helps!

On 22 Apr 05 we arrived at the pier at about 0630 and were in the self disembarkation group. All people doing it themselves gathered in the Chart Room for 0730 and we were let off the ship at 0745. After immigration, customs and queuing for a taxi we were in the taxi at approximately 0830.

It seems that the time disembarkation can begin depends upon the American passengers. They undergo immigration on board QM2 and until they have all been cleared nobody can depart.

Depends on what you mean by 'arriving' - if its when you can get off the ship, you've had plenty of replies - what no one has mentioned so far is the ca 1 hour queue to clear US Immigration on the pierside. I was in a taxi (another queue ~ 45 minutes) by 10.30.

However, if you mean 'ARRIVING' in New York - best to be on deck before 5am - top deck to sail under the Verazzano Narrows Bridge - great views of the funnel, Post Promenade to see the Statue of Liberty, Bow or Observation Deck as you approach Lower Manhattan, then Starboard Promenade as you sail up the Hudson past Manhattan (enjoy it while you can...). Then Observation Deck outside the Atlantic Room for docking - look up through the windows in the bottom of the Bridge - so they can see out (and you can see in too!)

Enjoy your crossing!

Immigration is done on the ship for US Passport Holders - all others get done on the pier.

This must have changed from last year as we went down to iluminations about 5.30-6.00am and got are passports stamped and then left the ship as we were self help. Not sure if this was because it was transatlantic.

No big deal either way will find out next year.

They now take your finger prints too....so I guess the machines can't be moved that easily.....so different from when immigration officers crossed on the ship and cleared everyone on board....now THATS a REAL change that has not been for the better.....and nowt to do with Princess or Carnival....
