rlwnsgb Posted May 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2014 We have our own gear and wondered if we could swim out to where the catamarans are feeding turtles? We don't want to get run over by a boat or be yelled at for being too close to a group that has paid for the experience, but I've read that the waters are calm off Payne's Beach and Carlisle Beach, so do people do that or is it too far to swim? lostdart1 Posted May 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2014 People do it all the time........ You should be a good swimmer and having fins helps a lot!! They will not yell at you or tell you not to be there.
rlwnsgb Posted May 26, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Good to know. I always wear a snorkel vest for added security, so I should be okay. Can't wait to get there.
taboom Posted June 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2014 We swam from shore to where the tours go on Carlisle Bay It's not a difficult swim at all. Take your time snorkeling out and back and it's easy! This was the highlight of our cruise!!

You can swim, but the tours are definitely worth it. No need to book in advance. All you need to do is ask the vendor when you come on the beach. I definitely recommend Carlisle Bay- one of the most beautiful and amazing beaches in the world. The tour was only $20 per person- included 2 turtle sites- that was absolutely the most amazing thing in the world!! Then they take you to 3 shipwreck sites which was also amazing. Have a great trip!!

They will not yell at you or tell you not to be there. Be very careful with the fins!!!!! They can do serious damage to a turtle if you kick one with your very hard fins. Most of the reliable tour operators like Calabaza and Silvermoon won't let you in the water with fins to protect the turtles.
