Playa de Carmen to Cancun

Hi all. We're considering renting a car and driving to Cancun from Playa de Carmen in November. Anyone know the distance/drive time, interesting places to visit in Cancun, their experience driving in the area, do I need to reserve the car or wait until I arrive, etc? I appreciate all the info I can get. Thanks.

It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach Cancun from PDC. I personally would never drive in Cancun and I live here. It is a very large city with lots of traffic. I take the bus or a taxi.

Another opinion,

About 7 or 8 years ago I did just that, rented in PdC and drove to Cancun. It was wonderful. There is lots of traffic in some parts but hey, I drive in Montreal every day so it is not a few honking horns that will bother me. If you are used to major cities, go for it. If not, try taking a bus.

Hi.I live in NewFoundland Canada(big island small # of people) definitely not going to rent a car in Mexico.Does anyone have any info on taxi-es from Playa Del Carmen to the Hyatt in Cancun.Is it safe to just hal a cab and jump in .First time in Mexico and a little nervous of the high crime rate.I will set rate before I get in but what do you think.

Since you live in Cozumel maybe you can give me some insight on the excursion "Dolphins Swim Experience" I really want to do this excursion and experience the same as the one given in Xaret, I hear that Swim with the Dolphins there is a nicer experience. Can you offer some suggestions.
