IPlayWithString Posted May 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Hubby kind of wants to do Passion Island because our son (10) has requested a beach trip on this cruise. But which way should we get there--by catamaran or on The Twister? Hubby favors catamaran even though The Twister would get us there faster. He's concerned that our son (who has Asperger's and sensory issues on top of that) would have a meltdown because the Twister is so fast (he doesn't like fast) and you get water sprayed in your face (again..he hates that). We've never done an excursion like this and I've heard both good and bad things about Passion Island, so please CC'ers...give me your thoughts on this whole thing. I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly. :D
KLMB Posted May 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Do they still offer the twister to Passion Island? I have not been able to find it, I know they offered it in the past.
tncap Posted May 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2014 It sounds like the catamaran would be best suited for your situation.
TXSAIL Posted May 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) We have been there twice by catamaran. We like to ride on top if you can get seats.. As far as spray, it can be a little bouncy for some , and if you sit in the left outside lower seats you may get some...This is the boat.. IPlayWithString Posted May 29, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted May 29, 2014 How long does it take to get there? What time do you have to be at the pier to depart? What time does it leave in the afternoon?
OCruisers Posted May 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2014 If your son does not like fast, take the catamaran to Passion Island. The Twister is very fast and he'll get very wet! LuLu
TXSAIL Posted May 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2014 It's 40 min each way.. How long does it take to get there? What time do you have to be at the pier to depart? What time does it leave in the afternoon?
OCruisers Posted May 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 30, 2014 It's 40 min each way.. Yes, about 40 minutes ... but it's actually a pretty and enjoyable ride! :) LuLu

mrsfuzzmo Posted May 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) We're sailing on Carnival..what time do you have to meet the captain(???) who's going to take you to Passion Island? You will have to book this through Carnival Excursions and that will give you all the time tables as to what time you meet, how long the trip will be and what time you'll be back at the dock. I am not sure this is bookable outside of the cruise line. Someone else may know, but if you are going, just book it through the cruise line for the most efficient trip. If you're trying to save a couple bucks, you may want to try and get there on your own, but sounds like the easier of a day it will be for you, the better. Book through the cruiseline and they will give you all the details as to where to meet and when. I haven't been on this Twister excursion, but I've been on boats like it. It's a crazy ride, fast, jerky and spinny and wet. Edited May 30, 2014 by mrsfuzzmo
IPlayWithString Posted May 31, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted May 31, 2014 I tried Googling "Passion Island Cozumel" and it brought up a website, but the website was either broken or just plain didn't work with my browser.
TXSAIL Posted May 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2014 I think it has gotten difficult to book independently, and the good thing about the ship tour is you leave right from the pier...One tip about PI, if you take the later trip it can be a little hard to secure a table in the shade.. Also, when you arrive, the guide wants you to wait while he explains everything to you. Last time my daughter slipped ahead and got us a table.. temp image upload
IPlayWithString Posted June 4, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted June 4, 2014 How necessary IS it to stand there and listen to the guy talk about stuff? I figured that most everything would be pretty self explanatory.
tncap Posted June 4, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 4, 2014 It is a brief chance for them to upsell you on some services but he also points out the bar and restrooms. Took all of maybe 90 seconds.
CruiseCrazyCouple0611 Posted June 4, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) I agree, the catamaran is probably the best way to go. Our grandson is autistic and he would love it. The Twister would probably be very unsettling. Edited June 4, 2014 by CruiseCrazyCouple0611

IPlayWithString Posted June 4, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) That's what I keep hearing. Even if he doesn't eat anything else, DS will probably at least eat the chips and salsa. He's primarily vegetarian and isn't terribly fond of meat. He will eat meat SOMETIMES, but not very often. Also..how strong/weak are the drinks? I plan on taking advantage of the free margaritas or whatever they serve that's free but I'm kind of a lightweight. I don't want to drink like one drink and be laid flat because I'm drunker than a skunk. Edited June 4, 2014 by IPlayWithString

trixiegal Posted June 9, 2014 #20 Share Posted June 9, 2014 I'm really interested in booking this but confused whether Carnival gives you the choice to book the catamaran or Twister. Is there a difference in price? Sent from my iPad using Forums
IPlayWithString Posted June 9, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted June 9, 2014 There is a slight difference in price--going by catamaran is cheaper than going by Twister boat.
OCruisers Posted June 10, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 10, 2014 The Twister Boat is extremely fast & rocky and you WILL get totally wet. This can be very much fun for some. The catamaran tour boat is a much more gentle ride. LuLu
