CRZAHOLIC Posted May 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2014 We are going to Maho as soon as we get off the plane. My husband works on computers systems in commercial planes so that is all he wants to see. Our son (17) and I want to see the planes but we want to do something afterward. We are not much for sitting on the beach, we will have gone snorkeling at another port and I can't get these 2 men to shop. Is there anything else? We leave in a week! Can't wait! Thanks! LS6Caddy Posted May 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Not sure what time you port and what time you leave port. But you are most likely to want to try to squeeze something in before going to Maho beach, as most of the big planes don't start showing up till around 11:00-12:00 at the earliest and there can be a number of the larger planes leaving closer to 2:00-3:00. So you really want to be there in the afternoon. That said, I have spent quite a bit of money on shore excursions in the past and have done a lot of really fun things. But something as cheap as a $16 cab ride gave me on of the most memorable days on shore that I have ever had. To me, it is so much fun, not to be missed, and something I will do now every time I go back to St Maarten. Have fun :)

So when we are done we should take a cab ride? Just around the city?
sunshinechgo Posted May 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2014 We did Maho again in Dec. The bigger planes are there between 2-3.... A few smaller planes after that but most are done by 4:30 unless there are delays. usually the KLM or Air France shows up between 2-3 and that is the biggest 747 that comes in there. After that we usually leave by 3:30 to head back to the ship since they leave by 4:30-5 and traffic can be heavy during that time. It can take 45 min to get back to the ship. The downtown is somewhat close to the ship but you still have to take the ferry to where the ships are and then walk some more. Make sure you give yourself some time. OCruisers Posted May 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 31, 2014 We arrive at 1 and leave at 7. That means you'll need to be back on the ship by 6:30 and won't be able to get to Maho until about 2 o'clock. The traffic in St. Maarten is extremely heavy and congested in the afternoons so you really won't have much time to do much else after going to Maho. Enjoy your day ... but do give yourself adequate time to get back to the ship. :) LuLu

Life is Good Cruising Posted June 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Thanks. Anything downtown we need to see? We were just there on May 26 and our ship was in port 1-8 pm. We did arrive at Maho at 2pm and was able to see Air France just landing. You can spend an hour at Maho and there are plenty taxis at Maho to take you back to the port or in town which has plenty of stores for shopping in Philipsburg. CRZAHOLIC Posted June 1, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Thanks to everyone. We leave in 4 days. My husband spends all day working on the computers that make these planes fly so this is the high point of his trip.

If this is the high point for your husband, why don't you just stay at Maho for a few hours before heading back to your ship.
