Eaglecw Posted May 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2014 Has anyone been on a tour with Dyea Dave tours out to Dyea? Was it worth the trip? Is there anything out there? We’ve done just about everything in Skagway and figured this might different.
aarrcc2 Posted May 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 31, 2014 We haven't been to Dyea but agree, doesn't sound like much out there. Have you taken the ferry to Haines? Wonderful town, great scenery and wildlife. Just a thought!
huskyguy Posted May 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 31, 2014 It is different, but probably only good if you have a very strong interest in local and Gold Rush history. There are 2 cemeteries with 52 headstones and headboards, some rotting pilings from the main dock (best seen at low tide), and a propped-up wall that's completely out of context (one of the online guides says that there are "a few propped up buildings" - there aren't). Don't know whether DD does it, but in theory you could also hike some of the Chilkoot Trail.
mr green Posted May 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2014 There is nothing in Dyea worth seeing, it was stripped to next to nothing when Skagway was built. john
Cruise_More_Often Posted June 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 1, 2014 We took a Dyea Dave tour to Carcross and back last year. Our tour driver lives in Dyea, and I swear she said about 7 people lived there. I don't think she was kidding.

dyeadave Posted December 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2014 Just a quick update, Ruth has retired and now there is a local lady who has taken up the Dyea run. Her name is Ann Moore and I think that she is using the name of Trumoore services. If my spelling is amiss, you may reach her at 907-617-7551. She may also be found thru the National Park Service of The US or Canada since she will be on their registry. She operates from a spot across from the NPS at 2nd & Broadway where she picks up hikers to take them out to the Chilkoot trail. DD
