Hi, we are visiting Cozumel for just one day and would like to see the island but don't wasn't to be part of a tour. We don't know much about Cozumel, I have read we can hire a jeep for the day, has anyone done this and are you safe to drive anywhere on the island alone.

Also is it easy to find your way around the island. Thank you.

We rented a car and toured the island but it was YEARS ago! We didn't have any trouble, but I really don't know how safe it is these days. I've not had recent experience.

n the past, we've taken the ferry over to Playa del Carmen for the day and that's always nice. There's a beach, but it's a very friendly place, with cobblestone streets and outside cafe's and shops. Our last trip to Cozumel we took a taxi and went to a place, which I can't for the life of me, think of the name of it. It's about a 15 minute cab ride costing like $14. This place only costs a few dollars to get in. You have use of lounge chairs, pool, changing facilities and beach. All they ask is that you spend $10 on food or drinks. You can also get a 'play things' deal for a little more where all the water activities are included. We just laid on the lounges and relaxed ... went to the bar and got some drinks and natchos and took a walk on the beach. Everyone is very nice and friendly and it certainly seemed safe. We had a great day. Whatever you do, enjoy and Happy Sailing! ;)
