Whale Watching in Juneau

I would like to do a whale watching in Juneau and the NCL Pearl offers several, one of which is an evening whale watch that leaves at 6:00 p.m. Is there any advantage to doing it during the day over the evening? I would like to do the Mendenhall Glacier on our own earlier so that we have plenty of time.
