The sophistication of Celebrity

Although an 'older' ship, we found the Horizon the cleanest ship we ever sailed on and the crew members were constantly cleaning, dusting, polishing, sweeping, etc.

We never had the cold towels offered on the Horizon though but will look for them on the Zenith. Although I usually carry my own tray, the offer is nice. We usually arrive early to the pier so we have never been escorted to the cabin and were not even allowed to drop-off our carryon until a set time and had to drag it around with us. We enjoy the high tea, especially since it's unique to our experiences. We'll look for the sushi (was not offered 3 yrs ago) but they did offer a 'tea' experience in the buffet line every afternoon; very nice to tie you over till dinner.

I think the biggest compaint I have with Celebrity its their lack of enforcing the rules they impose such as chair hogging, nonsmoking areas, unsupervised/unruly children, dress code in the dining room, etc. Having only sailed out of NYC on 'X', NCL, and Carnival (point being -same market) I actually have found all these issues the worst on Celebrity than the other two. I would hope they would show a little backbone with the offenders so the rest of us, who follow the rules, can have a pleasant vacation....

Having said all that, we really put Celebrity the highest on our list. We are really looking forward to sailing on the Zenith in Oct. and hope 'X' lives up to their reputation ....

Just wanted to add that one of my favorite parts of a cruise is the Baked Alaska Parade!!!!!.

You'll notice on my signature that I have been cruising since I was a child in the 70's and maybe that's why I love this "childish" activity, but I wanted to add that this is not Carnival invention.

Every cruise I have ever been on on multiple different lines including Commodor, Costa, Holland America, Celebrity and more, has had a Baked Alaska Parade. I tried to look up on the internet how this tradtion got started, but couldn't really find anything, just a history of the dessert. A primative form of it dates back to the Thomas Jefferson White house dinners. Who know maybe Thomas Jefferson started the tradtion of waiters parading around and waving napikins over thier heads!!! I hear that when he wasn't writing the Decleration of Independence or Making the Louisiana Purchase that he was quite the Partier!!!:D

My first cruise was in the 60's on the SS Ariadne and we had a baked Alaska parade. This is a very old cruise ship tradition.

  • 2 months later...

only once on our first cruise did we sail on a different line other then Celebrity. We sailed on Royal Carribbean. it was our first cruise and in that sense it was nice but not even comparable to the M class of Celebrity.

We were in our 40's ,we enjoy partying and we drink alcohol but ( and it might have been just a bad week), my husband and i have never been around sooooo many loud drunk people. and i think most would agree, unless you are one of the loud drunk ones--it aint no fun !!!

i never was able to get into a hot tub--always busy. people were dancing around the deck, loud drinking heavily when it wasnt dance time. I was in the pool once and someone jumped over my head !! again i really believe it was just a bad week ( wasnt even spring break ) the food was good but not memorable.yet, this was our first cruise and i loved the ports and the ocean......

Since then i have been on several celebrity cruises with my aunt and LOVED them! and i realized for me there was no comparison. I am now 50, i have 4 children and when i cruise i want pampering, stimulating conversation, meeting new people, lots of laughter, great food etc...

Last year i convinced my husband to go on a celebrity cruise. He went for me, he never stated it but he wasnt looking forward to it.Well, He loved it, we had a wonderful experience from the moment we boarded and got our champagne to meeting and enjoying our CC friends we met over the months of corresponding. Had the pleasure of meeting Canderson and his wife.

Hot tubs were always available, the thallo pool wonderful, the quiet atmosphere when you wanted it and the partying at the martini bar when we wanted partying.

I believe sites like this help so much. it lets the cruiser learn first hand what he will be getting and the type of cruise he would enjoy
