Getaway questions

We are leaving this Saturday 6/21 on the Getaway and have a few questions.

We are very experienced cruiser, from Carnival to Oceania 40+ total, but first time on NCL.

Where can we sit on deck in the shade?

Do we have to get up at 7am to reserve chairs?

Vibe - is this worth it and can you get weekly passes easily?

Best before dinner (around 7:30) bar?

Best dining room, not a specialty restaurant?

Pool towels - are extra towels available around the pool?

Bringing wine onboard - do they charge $15 corkage fee even though you will open yourself in your stateroom?

Any limit on the bottles of wine you can bring onboard?

Appreciate any and all answers...and any general comments, tips or suggestions...please pass along.

If you go to the back of the ship spice H2O is a great place with umbellas and some nice tables with chairs and umbrellas and a great water area to cool off in. We discovered this the last day on the ship and it has a great view, also a bar in that area.

We were in the Haven and could look over to the Vibe which was set up similar to the haven area. It is nice but I would say the big difference is the quality of the chairs, umbrellas and less traffic.

There is a ton of lounge chairs everywhere, if you want to be by the pool then it is probably hard to get a chair and would have to go early in the morning to reserve one.

We enjoyed the mojioto bar outside on deck 8.

As far as pool towels go we had them in our room, not sure if it was because we had a suite but I would assume everyone has them. Also, if you are in the vibe or haven they provide towels on the chairs.

Not sure about the wine. Hope this helps a little

The $15 for wine corkage does not matter where you drink the wine, it is to offset the loss of revenue, nothing to do with where the wine is consumed.

No limit on the number of bottles, you need to carry them on yourself and not put them in checked luggage. $15 per 750 ml bottle with no limit. If you try to send them in checked luggage, it will end up in the "naughty" room and you will have to go down your first evening, open it up, pay the fee's and then lug them to your room. Better to plan on using your carry on.

Reserving pool chairs if frowned upon, chair hogs as they are know. Possible/likely someone will remove your items reserving them anyway.

Vibe passes usually sell out quickly and most plan on being in the first groups aboard if passes are desired.

Each room will have a poll towel per person, swap them out as needed, there is a booth near the pool so you can swap if you wish, or your room steward will replace them as used if you leave it on the floor.

Most main dining rooms share a similar menu every meal. So pick the one that suits you or the one that is least busy at any given time. Food is pretty much the same.

Most of all, enjoy your cruise!

Most of these questions get talked about regular and are answered better by scrolling down the page.

I will tackle the wine.

$15 per 750ml bottle. No matter if it has a cork, will be in your room or dining room. Same price. No limit on number of bottles. It is not a charge for opening at all.

As far as shaded areas other than some areas such as Spice H20 on the upper decks as already mentioned, the Waterfront area along deck 8 is a good place to find a shaded comfy area, depending on the time of day and the direction of the sun. There is a bar on both port and starboard sides with couches and chairs. The outdoor seating area of various restaurants along the Waterfront are not in use during the day and you are free to sit at any of the tables.

Where can we sit on deck in the shade? I recommend Vibe!

Do we have to get up at 7am to reserve chairs? Not if you have Vibe access!

Vibe - is this worth it and can you get weekly passes easily? We boarded in Group 7 and still got access! Yes, daily and weekly passes are available.

Best before dinner (around 7:30) bar? Vibe! Kervin is a superstar!

Best dining room, not a specialty restaurant? Sorry didn't eat in any MDR's.

Pool towels - are extra towels available around the pool? There are in Vibe!

Bringing wine onboard - do they charge $15 corkage fee even though you will open yourself in your stateroom? Sorry, don't drink wine.

Any limit on the bottles of wine you can bring onboard? Sorry, don't drink wine.

Appreciate any and all answers...and any general comments, tips or suggestions...please pass along.

I highly recommend Vibe if you can get the passes. They pay for themselves! It's so nice and quiet there compared to the rest of the ship.

Where can we sit on deck in the shade?

Depends on where the sun is that day and which way the ship is headed.

Do we have to get up at 7am to reserve chairs?

You can't RESERVE chairs.

Vibe - is this worth it and can you get weekly passes easily?

Worth it is subjective you need to answer that for yourself.

Weekly passes yes.

Best before dinner (around 7:30) bar?

The one closest to you where ever you are at the time! :p

Best dining room, not a specialty restaurant?

I enjoyed the MDR on all ships.

Pool towels - are extra towels available around the pool?

Can't recall actually, sorry.

Bringing wine onboard - do they charge $15 corkage fee even though you will open yourself in your stateroom?

Fee applies. Where you drink the vino is 100% irrelevant.

Any limit on the bottles of wine you can bring onboard?

No.

By "reserve" a chair, if you and the early responders mean sit your rear in that chair at 7AM to save it, that is fine. We had no problem getting a chair by the pool at 8:00AM, and we reserved them by sitting in them. If you mean putting a towel down while you go do other things for a few hours, plan to find that towel gone when you return. Especially if I am on your cruise. :-) Hope that helps.

Vibe is a secluded area on the ship that is adults only. It has its own bar, tubs, showers, chairs, loungers, umbrellas and is quite peaceful. You can get passes at Guest Services on Deck 6. It's $79.00 per person for the week or $299.00 for a cabana with a $100.00 food credit. The cabanas seem to go very fast.

We spent the majority of day in Vibe, while not out doing the other ship activities. We found it to be very relaxing and very useful.
