acr8tz Posted July 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2014 We're arriving in Marseilles at 9am and need to be back on the ship by 3pm for a business meeting. Based on the reviews we've read, we think we shouldn't waste our time in Marseilles. We think we want to spend the short time in Aix-en-Provence. Any suggestions on the best way to get there? Things to do? Etc? Or, are there any other suggestions on places to visit, things to do?
3ssn Posted July 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2014 You possibly read the wrong reviews. With this very short port time I would definately enjoy Marseille itself and not bothering with transfers to other cities. Notre Dame de la Garde, Le Pannier, Old Port are all worth your time
cberge Posted July 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 2, 2014 This board has some really postive reviews for Marseille some posted recently. It has changed for the better over the past few years and people are enjpying it. Your port time is very short and you would not be ble to see very much away from the port as the previous poster stated.
headedout1 Posted July 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 4, 2014 I've been to both Marseille and Aix. Tuff choice as you balance proximity and more time on foot vs the time it takes to drive somewhere. In my opinion, there are no bad choices but I enjoyed Aix en provence because I was able to see what a small charming town in France looks like. I would not have another opportunity to see this on my cruise. I would have the chance to see other large cities so I ranked Aix higher than Marseilles.
