gliles Posted June 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2004 For the Oosterdam 10/31 sailing, we have seen a BC for as low as $599, now there are only 4 on the ship and they are probably undesirable since they have the solid balcony, not the plexiglass also they have shower, no tub. Then they will have a BA for $1,900+ Then on other sites they have the BA for $599 and a BC for over $1,900. What gives? I don't get it. Can anyone explain? Thanks! Orcrone Posted June 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2004 The TA I use has prices of $636 to $696 for cats. BA, BB, B, AA and A for that cruise. However cat. BC is $1000 more. In fact, category NN (the lowest category) is over $1000. I dont understand it either, but I'd book the BA for $599 if I were you. BTW, if you do I'll see you on HMC. I'm on the Maasdam and both ships will be there on Monday, November 1. 1/1990 - RCCL Song of America 4/13/2003 - Carnival Inspiration 10/30/2004 - Maasdam Till sailing on the Maasdam
gliles Posted June 18, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted June 18, 2004 I would too but my DH is convinced that since there are only 4 BCs, we'd have a better shot at an upgrade (he is a gambler!) It just doesn't make sense why anyone would pay more for a BC when them seem to be the worst of the balconies. Orcrone - I'll see you on HMC! Orcrone Posted June 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Huh????? Perhaps you should consider throwing out the second pancake. Just kidding. But seriously that makes no sense. BA is a higher category than BC. So if they're the same price, why not go for the higher category. Someone with an NN guarantee won't be upgraded to the penthouse. Generally, upgrades are like dominos. The higher you are, the higher you can wind up. So there's a better chance of ending up with a higher category upgrade withe the BA. Aside from which, you just may end up with a BC, which you state you won't like as much. So tell DH that he may win with his gamble. But if you wind up with the BC room near the end of the ship, with solid railings and no bathtub, you won't be as happy. And we all know a happy DW makes for a happy cruise. gliles Posted June 18, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Orcrone - You are too funny! Actually our TA doesn't have the same pricing but maybe I will call and ask her. Funny you should mention the NN because that is what we booked for our daughter and there are only 2 of those on the ship so again, the gambler (pancake)is hoping for an upgrade for that cabin as well! I have also seen NNs for over $1,000 which again, quite odd. I'll keep you posted, we aren't in the final payment yet so anything can happen. srpilo Posted June 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2004 Windycity I think you hit it on the head, when a Catagory is close to a sell out they raise the price to encourage the sale of the higher catagories.
