Not allowed to upgrade

After having booked for Sept 2015 Southern Caribbean Cruise boarding at Barbados due to no flights from London to San Juan we asked if we could upgrade and pay extra for a larger cabin. The Carnival customer rep said no problem as all the cabins in the grade we wanted were free, great we thought BUT when our local holiday rep rang in less than 30 mins to confirm booking she was told sorry we cannot sell them to overseas passengers who don't board at the start of the cruise. The fact we were willing to pay the extra cost, made no difference. It seems Carnival promises are not worth a bean and that includes their reps who don't know how to sell their cruises. The Carnival rep admitted he got it wrong, saying sorry does not help as it has now made us wish we had not booked with them at all. This was to be a double celebration cruise. We have travelled with them on previous cruises with no problems.

Yes, those boarding in Barbados are allocated certain cabins, which are limited. Since so few board each week in Barbados, its somewhat understandable that the rep had probably never dealt with that issue before.

Hope you can still enjoy your cruise.

Could you fly in to a U.S. airport, then catch a flight to San Juan? This way you can enjoy the entire cruise. Not sure how it is over there, but I can't seem to book flights more than a year out.

They will be enjoying an entire cruise, just different boarding and debarking days.

My partner and I will be doing the PR cruise in Sept (YAY!!) We fly gatwick > JFK > SJU Which actually works out cheaper than flying into barbados for us.

Just a thought.

Plus because of the saving, we decided to spend a few days in NY before going to PR.
