Captain Jake Posted July 13, 2014 #104 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Yes you did, but I was wondering if there was any reference for it, or if it was just your opinion. I got my answer. Google it ,its on the news all the time here on how Delaware and New Jersey are losing revenues to Maryland Casinos and what they need to do to bring it back . The Casino "Maryland Live" located between D.C.and Baltimore generated over 55 million in revenues in March, Statewide revenues were 75 million in their smoke-free casinos. Needless to say that's some of that 75 million went out of the coffers of neighboring states.Maryland Live opened June 2012. :cj
LindaO Posted July 13, 2014 #105 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Wait you mean to tell us that it really wasn't the whining of the non-smokers that caused the change? Don't tell them that! WOW... took a long time for someone to comment on that tidbit of information. But it is something that can't be argued with. It is easy information to find with a simple google search. Of course, you have to read through a huge convention document, outlining the options, but what it boils down to is the cost of changes vs no smoking on balconies. But... like I said... you can whine about not being able to smoke on your balcony and expect the cruise lines to change. But ships are still sailing full. Prices have not been reduced. Balconies continue to sell out before interior or outside cabins. I do wish they would make all interior areas smoke free...

Open flames and hot surfaces have been banned for in cabins for ages . It's mind boggling that it took so long to ban smoking in cabins and balconies. Thank goodness safety wins

I looked through the amendments made after the Princess fire, and while they mandated balcony fixtures, furniture, paint, dividers, railings, etc. be fireproof if there aren't fire sprinklers and fire detection and alarm systems on balconies, I saw nothing about allowing smoking. Can you point me to the specific sections or MSC number of the amendment that deals with smoking on balconies? It's a lot to sort through. I asked her the same thing in another thread and she basically said that I was lazy and she wasn't going to do my research for me. You're right though. I went through the amendments also and there is nothing in them about banning (or allowing) smoking. Edited August 19, 2014 by tahqa
