csunshine860 Posted July 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2014 What currency is used here if one wants to book a tour? Do all tour companies at these ports accept US$. It seems here in Montreal, Canada the foreign exchange office says you can use US . They do not carry nor can they get xfp. Thanks.

Bonjour to a fellow Mtler We were in FP this past March and we only brought US dollars for taxis and incidentals. Used the ATM so as not to carry too much cash. Book your tours online, some hotels charge more for the service. Good excursions fill up fast so it's never too soon to reserve. We took some fabulous tours so if you'd like some more info I'd be happy to share my research. Bon Voyage CLICK HERE TO SEND A MESSAGE
Denise_CA Posted July 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2014 The currency used in French Polynesia is XPF, Pacific Franc. The Papeete International Airport has a currency exchange desk. I suggest converting some of your US Dollars into XPF when you arrive. Most stores and hotels will accept US Dollars and major credit cards, but not all. It's best to have some cash with you. Enjoy Tahiti! :) Denise Blackmore, MCC
Tikiintahiti Posted July 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) FYI ...... The Papeete International Airport currency exchange desk does not give a good exchange rate plus they charge a commission on top of the bad rate. There is an ATM about 150 feet to the right when leaving customs - it's street side, will give a better exchange rate. If it isn't working which does happen from time to time, there is an ATM at the ferry terminal next to the ships and several banks within a few blocks of the ships. We always use the airport ATM machine. We've found one we like in Bora Bora--we used to pay our hotel bill with local funds--we saved quite a lot-- Nancy:D:D

Seal Posted July 16, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2014 Nancy' date='Tell me more. I like the idea of saving money.:D Long Beach, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. We are neighbors. Shirley[/size'] Our money saving effort only worked well for us on Bora Bora since we stayed several days to a week before a cruise--we stayed at the La Moana OWB's. We averaged between 30 and 35% on our hotel bill--at that time they charged more for American funds exchanged for payment--they also charged to use a credit card--can't remember everything about it--but it was an easy saving. Also staying there. Also, an Ambassador club card works well for a weekend night free----this information is about three years old now and worked for us for quite a few years--This hotel is next to Maitira Beach--hotel food left a bit to be desired, but easy to find better with just a bit of a walk--breakfast was usually from the bakery up the road and they furnished coffee in the room--many easy places for lunch around--canoes and kayaks are available most of the time and you can swim off your deck and watch the fish and feed them from your coffee table.
