VideoTech Posted July 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Returning on a Sunday from Carnival Cruise. Plane does not leave till 5:00 pm. How to spend some time other than sitting at the airport all day...we have our luggage so might be tough to do...any ideas? There is a luggage storage service advertised in the port buildings at New Orleans. Also some cruise lines have a program where they will take your bags from you on the last night of the cruise and deliver them to the airport and check them onto your flight...you don't see them again until you pick them up after your flight home. As for what to do in New Orleans...wow. Walk the streets of the French Quarter, and eat a great lunch. Got kids? New Orleans aquarium right near the port, or the Mardi Gras displays in the warehouse also near the port. Take a ride on the Algeirs ferry...free and fun. Walk around Algeirs point then come back. Go down the riverwall a ways from the Aquarium...see the Natchez steamboat? Take a river cruise on it. Ride the trolley along the riverfront. Go to the French Market. Stop at Cafe du Monde for Cafe au Lait and Beignets. Listen to the street music. Buy some art in Jackson square. Shop....and shop...eat... and eat. So much good food to sample! All that just scratches the surface...your real problem will be to remember to head to the airport in enough time!!

tahoemc Posted July 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2014 Last April we had a 5: something flight, so we we used the independent luggage valet at the cruise terminal as Royal does not offer airport valet in NOLA. It worked out great, and they picked us up near the old mint building at the northeast end of the FQ. I believe they will pick up near Jackson Square unless there is a big event going on and FQ streets are restricted.
GoVikes Posted July 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2014 Cafe du Monde for the Beignets and Cafe au Lait is a must for us. Yum!! :D We really liked the city tour and thought the steamboat ride was ok.
