Hurricane -- alternative routes?

Recommended Posts

All right. Rough weather happens. It's always a gamble and it's part of the deal when we cruise. So, historically speaking, what are some of the alternative routes that the cruise lines take when high seas are in the path of a cruise to Bermuda?

Take a look at a map and see what alternatives you can come up with. The only likely one is Canada if you are sailing from a Northeast port. Even then the ships run the risk of having the hurricane follow in their path as they head north. Projecting the path a hurricane will take is chancy at best. You only have to look at the tragedy of the Fantome a few years ago when it tried to outguess and outrun a hurricane in the Caribbean.
