Extend vacation to Bora Bora or Moorea?

Hi All,

I am in the planning stage of a cruise to FP with Princess. I have a choice between 2 itineraries.

1.Tahiti, Tahiti, Huanhine, Sea Rangiroa, Sea Raiatea, Bora Bora, Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti, Tahiti

2. Tahiti, Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Sea, Sea, Nuku Hiva, Sea, Rangiroa, Raiatea, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Tahiti

We are planning to extend our stay on land after the cruise. We are trying to decide 4 nights in Bora Bora or 4 nights in Moorea. We are looking at some places on VRBO or B&B--or even a nice hotel--not interested in OWB. We also want to rent a car as well.

Our interests are diving, snorkeling, beaches.

We are sort of conflicted--if we stay in Moorea, we will do the cruise with 2 days in Bora Bora. If we stay in Bora Bora, we will do the second cruise...possibly (don't like that extra sea day)

Are any of the ports a 'do not miss'??

Any suggestions or words of wisdom you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Jill

I would choose Bora Bora if I had extra time--we usually stay in Bora Bora before cruising--its been my favorite since my first trip in 1979--that's when Bloody Marys opened--I'm even older than I think I am.

Enjoy yourselves--

Keep in mind Nuku Hiva isn't known for beaches and snorkeling.

In general ........... if your biggie is water adventure spend your extra nights on Bora Bora as the lagoon is incredible.

If landscape and/or land activities are the biggie then do the extra days on Moorea.

Moorea is also cheaper for accommodations.

Keep in mind that for basically the same airfare as Bora Bora you could head out to an atoll for that 4 nights. Cheaper, more intimate, less people .... just sayin'

Thank you all for your input. We appreciate that!

We are still considering a rental through VRBO--some will also rent you a car.

As I said, we want to stay in a place that has a kitchen so we don't have to eat all our meals out. Is that a good plan ?? Or should we look for a decent hotel with place nearby? Do we need a rental car on Bora Bora?

thanks again.

Jill,

The majority, not all, rental properties with kitchens are on the northern part of the island away from activities, so yes, a rental car is a must. I may also add that the beaches are superior on other parts of the island, primarily Matira Beach/strand.

I've looked a few times about doing what you are thinking so I have a pretty good idea of what's out there. There appears to be a few places located in the south area, close to Matira Beach but they can be very expensive. The north area is much more reasonable but then your off away from everything thing.

There are also a few rustic rentals that have kitchenettes but no A/C and it is very basic.

Feel free to give the ink of a property your thinking of, I know Bora Bora well, would be happy to give you my take on the area/property.

I've been to both these places. Very nice but not the best location. The driveway is very steep, the 'beach' across the street is very small. The units over the water that you can see in some of the photos are very similar. The closes 'real' market is about 5 miles away, only one local restaurant is close, about a mile away but very good and reasonable.

Thank you Tiki. I hope you don't mind looking at two more rentals for me.

I'm done now!

I keep leaning toward Moorea over Bora Bora. I don't know why. I think the pictures are just appealing to me more.

Thanks again for your input.

Nice place in one of my favorite areas.

Off the beaten track and around where many of the locals on Moorea actually live.

Daniels Pizzeria that is mentioned is fantastic, I've eaten there several times.

There are a few small food markets close by but the bigger ones are s bit of a drive.

The place looks nice and looks to be a nice deal.

Hit the link under the picture .......

A bit of help to give you the lay of the land in comparison to the location of this place.

add a few more days and do BTB cruises:D it would be cheaper and you would still have lots of time on both islands to do what you want to do and you would see some of the other island!!!

Very true. Hadn't thought of that!

Hi All,

I don't mean to intrude and change the subject on your thread but i am not sure how to post this any other way.

My husband and i have a 2 week trip in sept. to Moorea and Bora Bora, i am trying to find affordable local restaurants. It looks like there are several people posting that have been there many times. Any information will be appreciated.
