Free Wifi

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be a good idea to share free wifi tips for the various ports.

Palma - we used the Tui wifi on the coach to/from the airport. This only required accepting terms and conditions.

Villefranche - we used the wifi provided by the restaurant where we had lunch - enough bandwidth for a Facebook check in and sorting out our various kindles.

Livorno - we took a taxi to Pisa and had a brilliant, fast connection. The taxi driver gave us the code. I was able to upload loads of photos in no time.

Rapallo - no luck, ended up turning on 3G

Toulon - we spent the day at a full-service beach and used their excellent wifi.

Barcelona - free city Wifi on the Colon end of La Rambla, and the restaurant wifi where we stopped for a Sangria.

Good idea for a thread. Here are some for Norway/Iceland

Reykjavik:

Good cakes too!

Oslo:

Espresso House Olav V's Gate (there are several in the city but this is just off the main square opposite the McD's - guess there was some there too). Cafe came recommended from the girl in the tourist office and we loved the ambience, decor and food!

Kristiansand;

Hos Naboen, Markensgate 19A - cafe

Lerwick: Fine Peerie Cakes cafe on the main street just past Boots. Best pecan pie and cream scones all trip! Also cheapest!

Torshavn: Now this is a mouthful! Smyrjibreyds (or some version of that!) cafe. It's a the top of the main street on the right just before you hit the main road where you can catch the local bus.

Geiranger - we had problems although we did spot a hot spot at the camp site but thought perhaps we had to be booked in to use it. Perhaps there may have been some available elsewhere but there was none at the Museum/Visitor Centre.

Bergen

The tourist information centre. (Sadly not the beautiful building with the frescoes any longer - that's now a restaurant but the porta cabin look alike structure on the harbourside.)

This isn't a bad list, not sure how up to date it is, and I'm sure there are many they have left off:

Gibraltar is good in the port terminal, I gave up at the terminal in Athens, was very slow when I eventually got online.

Best advice is as always.... follow the crew:)

Koper

Across the road from where the ship docks there are some arches set in the hillsides and the crew were getting a signal there.

Venice

Paid for 2 rounds of drinks and 2 sandwiches to use the free wifi in an Irish Pub and the signal was so weak it was a waste of time!

Koper - we had very good Wifi on the beach in Portoroz - enough to upload videos to Facebook.

Venice - in a bar right next to Rialto Bridge.
