funinthesun1964 Posted August 1, 2014 Author #79 Share Posted August 1, 2014 If you don't mind me asking, which wineries do you frequent in NE Ohio? We have been to John Christ in Avon Lake and Heineman's on Put n Bay. Tomorrow we are headed to Pelee Island to visit the winery there. Lots of fun and some great wines! Hi, we live further south in the Canton/Akron area and like Maize Valley, Red Horse, and others in our neck of the woods. We have been to Put N Bay also, love it! Hope you enjoy your visit to the winery!

We love the Fantasy but we are partial to the smaller ships. And only a 3 hour drive for us. You could have stayed with us on the way down we have the motor home in the driveway! Enjoying your review they are always good. Glad you were able to sneak this one in! Hiya Debi!! Too bad it didn't work out that we were cruising at the same time, that would have been fun. Would have been great to see you guys again. Maybe another time though! Thanks for stopping by!

funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #88 Share Posted August 2, 2014 We did not go to the gym this day, but instead walked up on the walking track on the sports deck. It was windy, but we still enjoyed being outdoors. We ate breakfast at Lido restaurant and we both had the made-to-order omelet. DH and I both agreed, very good. DH also served himself a healthy dose of bacon (no bacon police this day!). I didn't have any meat so I can't comment on the tastiness of this, but DH said the bacon was good. We were in port from 8:00 am, but we had no pre-arranged plans and were in no hurry. We just took our time eating our breakfast and went back to the cabin, debarked when we felt like it. This was very nice, not being rushed. We walked around the port area. For those of you who have never been to Freeport, there is a shopping area, and a few others stores for shopping, some shacks that sell things, etc. Also now a Senor Frogs, Fat Tuesdays, and another bar or two. We ended up walking into the liquor store and bought beers, 2 for $5. We sat down to enjoy them in front of the place that sells conch, DH had to have it. Waiting for the conch to be done, and enjoying our beers: There is a band that plays music in that gazebo. I had to take a picture of this guy's hat (is that what you call it?) A shopping area directly in the port area, with not much in it.
funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #89 Share Posted August 2, 2014 We saw a couple places where you could rent scooters, but looked like they would only fit one person. We saw a group of 4 at one of the places rent a jeep and went away. DH said he would be afraid to drive here, since they drive on the "wrong" side of the road. Finally, boredom overtook us, and we didn't have to board the ship again until 4:30, so we decide to take a taxi to Port Lucaya. It was only $5 pp each way, so we said, why not. The taxi was a van which fit about 10 people total. DH and I got to sit in the front seat with the driver. We first dropped off a couple of people at a public beach, they had arranged for the driver to collect them again at 3:30. Then we were on the way for the final 5 minutes or so. Total time in the taxi was probably 20 minutes. When we arrived at Port Lucaya, we were dropped off across the street from the shopping area which appeared to be a large resort or hotel. We were given plastic cards, to present for our ride back, as we paid the "to" and "back" trip all right then. We walked across the street and found that there were just more shops. Lol, really not into shopping. Noticed more jewelry stores and possibly upscale shopping. Restaurants and bars. Basically same thing the port right off the ship has to offer, on a larger scale. It was a cute little shopping area though. We found a bar and had a seat. We had a couple of beers and got into conversation with the bartenders and other customers. A short walk behind the shopping village This was across the street from the shopping. We walked over on our way back to get the taxi back to the ship. There were hotels and as we walked towards the beach it was gated, I'm not sure if there was anywhere in that area that you could go to the beach or not. Made a pretty picture though. funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #90 Share Posted August 2, 2014 This is the shopping area as we were leaving. We went ahead and boarded the ship as soon as we returned. We were quite hungry so we had some lunch. We had burgers on lido. Then we went to Serenity deck again to enjoy sail away.
funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #91 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Bye-bye Freeport. See ya another time, maybe... Oh, this is the day where we met a woman from Montreal. She was quite talkative and friendly. We learned a lot of things that we didn't know that day. She was lovely.

funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #93 Share Posted August 2, 2014 For those interested in the name of the bar that we went to at Port Lucaya, it was called Rum Runners. funinthesun1964 Posted August 2, 2014 Author #99 Share Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) After we left Freeport, we spent a little while on the serenity deck. But we had had enough of the sun and the heat that day. We decided to go back to the cabin to take a nap. That is one advantage of having late dining time, there is time to take a late afternoon nap. Having said that, I usually can never sleep during the day. I have a hard enough time sleeping at night. But, DH can fall asleep at anytime, anywhere. So he had a nap, and I had a relax. We headed up to dinner and our waiters were efficient as usual. I could not eat that much, due to our having a later afternoon lunch. I was still full. After dinner, we did not find that much to do. We were slightly bored. We do not like showcase of stars, or the gender showdown. We ended up in Cat's Lounge, where the playlist singers were singling along with Dat Band. The singers had good voices. We continued our night there because Dat Band was performing Woodstock era music at 10:30. Dat Band did the Woodstock music nicely. I enjoyed it. We stayed for the first set, and then I was tired and called it a night. Next, Nassau day. Edited August 2, 2014 by funinthesun1964
