S.A.M.J.R. Posted July 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I have two RCI cruises (Oasis and Freedom) under my belt, and my family is considering cruising on Getaway in 2016. I have some questions... 1) Because I don't want to assume, can you get non-alcoholic frozen drinks? What's the average cost? 2) Aside from the MDR and the buffet, what other free dining choices are there? 3) Is the ropes course something you would do multiple times during the cruise? 4) How bad are the lines for the water slides? 5) Does the ship feel "crowded"? We'll be cruising in June, so I know it will be the busy season. Thanks in advance
JenLovesToTravel Posted July 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2014 1) Because I don't want to assume, can you get non-alcoholic frozen drinks? What's the average cost? ' Yes there are non alcoholic frozen drinks, not sure of the cost 2) Aside from the MDR and the buffet, what other free dining choices are there? NCL's website will give you more detailed info on free dining venues but they are Main Dining Rooms (Taste and Savor), Tropicana Room, Flamingo Grill, O'Sheehans and the buffet 3) Is the ropes course something you would do multiple times during the cruise? Totally depends on how much you enjoy it. We did it three times. It's large and has many options so it's not the same if you don't want it to be. Make sure you bring closed toe sports shoes 4) How bad are the lines for the water slides? Lines weren't long and they went super fast. 5) Does the ship feel "crowded"? We'll be cruising in June, so I know it will be the busy season. No, we were amazed at how spacious it was. At times the buffet was crowded but since it's super long, there was always some place to sit
3shar Posted July 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I will answer what I can for you 1. They do make non alcoholic versions of drinks but I am not sure of the cost 2. Besides the main dining room there are many other choices. There are 2 other smaller dining less formal rooms savor and taste. The food was good. There are other restaraunts scattered ( Flamingo , Osheehans and Garden Café which is the buffet) 3. You definitely can do the ropes course more than once. 4. I didn't find the slide lines outrageous. Yes on at sea days there was a wait ...Maybe 15 minutes...On port days no lines at all 5. We were just on last week. The only place I really noticed the crowd was at the buffet. The ship is so big it is spread out You will have a blast Hope this helps

DrNora Posted July 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2014 The crowd control and flow on this ship blows away Royal. We were also on last week and could not believe the difference between FREEDOM and Getaway You will love it My son drank virgin frozen drinks They were 4.00 and came in a cute cup. Dining options as stated by the others Slides and ropes - lines went fast! This is now our favorite ship. The quality of shows wallops what we are used to on Royal. Service was top notch. We had a Haven suite but never stayed in the Haven except to sleep and to eat breakfast and a few dinners. The ship has so many possibilities for families and for couples- if you had fun on the RCl megas as we did, you will call this the BLOWNaway....she is THAT good.
