How do we get to the Bacardi factory?

My wife and I will be in San Juan on a Carnival Liberty cruise next month and we want to go to the Bacardi Factory for the tour. Is there an easy and cheap way to get there? I know I read in the past something about taking a ferry then a cab. How do we get to the ferry?

From Old San Juan – Walk over to Pier 2 to catch the ferry to Catano at $1pp roundtrip. When you arrive in Catano, go to the right for a taxi/shuttle to the factory $6 or $8pp round trip. Pier 2 will be across the street from CVS or close to it.

You should be aware that the taxi from the pier on the Catano side of the harbor to the factory and back will be a shared taxi. Also, it is free to tour the Bacardi Factory itself, samples included. Do not take the cruise line tour - you will pay way too much. Allow 4 hours total for a leisurely visit, waiting for the ferry and taxis, and to get back to the ship.

It's really easy. There is a BIG sign / mural painted on the wall of the ferry station / port. Go that way. Just make sure you get on the correct ferry. Ask. Every local in the waiting area knows you want to go to Bacardi.

 

When you get to your destination / ferry stop follow the crowd & all the oh so helpful & accommodating taxi drivers :rolleyes: who will direct you to their cabs in the garage near the dock. They will give you instructions on how to catch the cab back to the ferry for the trip back to OSJ.
