tidygirl Posted August 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Could someone tell me how to get to the train station so we can go to Pisa? Would it be reasonable if the ship arrives at 7:00AM to catch an 8:20 train? Is it worth doing on our own? We kind of want to climb the tower and I can't find a tour through the cruise line that offers that. We are also trying to keep the cost reasonable too. Any tips for our day are welcome we will be there Sept 24th
SandyDrew Posted August 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2014 We went to Pisa in the morning when we docked at La Spezia in July, and then went on to Cinque Terre in the afternoon. We made sure we were waiting at the gangplank so that as soon as disembarkation was allowed we could get off the ship. We were allowed off at about 7:20. This was before the ship excursion people, otherwise you have to wait for them to disembark first. The shuttle bus left virtually immediately and dropped us at the port gates about 5 minutes later. There were taxis waiting there and we were at the station another 10 minutes later. The cost was EUR 15. We had already booked our train tickets from La Spezia Centrale to Pisa San Rossore Station (EUR 28.40 for 4 pax) when we docked in Venice 5 days earlier, so we did not waste time doing this in La Spezia. The train took just over an hour to Pisa San Rossore, which is about 5 minutes walk from where the Leaning Tower is. This is much closer than going to Pisa Centrale Station. We were in Pisa before 9:15, and had prebooked to climb the tower at 10:30. Our return train trip to La Spezia left Pisa San Rossore at 11:40 and arrived at 13:00. Make sure that you validate your train tickets in a yellow box on the platform before each trip, as we had conductors come around both trips. Enjoy your day!:)
