There are 6 of us. My plan is to drop off the other 5 at the port with the luggage while i return the rental car. ill then take the rental car shuttle to the port and meet up. does that sound doable? Can they walk from the entrance to the ship?

Well, the only way from the terminal entrance to the terminal and then to the ship is by walking, unless they would need a wheelchair. It is about a 30 second walk.

Yes, your plan to drop off peeps and luggage works very well. Just remember to keep a government issued photo ID (driver's license) so that you can get back into the port. If you have a second ID (like a passport), your spouse can do your check in as well. You'll just have to get the security photo done when you get back to the terminal and the CM will hand you the KTTW card.

Yes its very doable and most people that rent cars do the same thing.

As far as walking to the ship, thats not a problem, its not like the airports where everyone needs to be together. However someone at least 1 person will need to wait on you in the terminal as they will have your KTTW card, which places you on and off the ship.(on the assumption that this is during open boarding. Otherwise, everyone gets to wait until your number is called)

Actually you can check-in the person returning the car(not present), on the same reservation #, if you have their BC or passport of the missing pax when they are not present.

Then the person returning the car, if the other folks are already aboard, if they wouldn't wait, would go check-in to get a photo, if needed(if haven't sailed recently), and then receive their KTTW card. Then said pax could board.

They will not give out KTTW cards unless the pax is physically present. That doesn't stop other family members from checking-in said pax, if they have the documents to do so. This process speeds things up for said missing pax, upon their return to the terminal.

In fact this is many pax/families technique.

Correct--they will not give the KTTW of an adult to anyone other than the person named on the card. No one will in your party can get your card for you. They can do your check in for you and all you'll need is to do the photo (if not already on file) and take the card from the CM.

We just did this. My husband dropped us off with luggage. I had his passport. We checked in and got his key to the world card. No picture required because this was our 13 th Disney cruise. We left his card at supervisors desk and got on ship. When he came back he picked up his key and walked on. He had his drivers license and a copy of the online cruise check in form. But no one asked for anything except a photo id to pick up his key card. Much easier than hauling all the bags to and from Avis.

kttw = Key To The World card.

It's your ID card the ship issues you that you charge onboard services to (drinks, shop purchases etc) need to board the ship after going ashore, and on the Dream and Fantasy it also open's your Stateroom door as well.

HTH's!
