NCL freestyles dining

I am sailing on the Dawn in 2 weeks ( a freestyle dining ship). I have read that there is a formal night on board. Is that expected in all of the alternative restaurants and main dining rooms that night? Just curious. while I know that nice pants and a jacket are technically acceptable in all of the restaurants, I don't want my hubby to look like a yahoo. I'm just wondering what most men wear on that night.

The formal night on the Dawn is optional, which is the case on all of NCL's ships. I would estimate that 25-40% of the passengers were dressed up on my Dawn sailing. Your husband will most definitely NOT look like a yahoo if he's wearing nice pants and a jacket. Most men don't even wear a jacket.

His specific references to bars in Dorchester, South Boston, and East Boston are implicit yet egregious slurs against one race and two significant ethnic groups. Expressions of bigotry like this should be expunged immediately from this board.

1) I was referring to Boston-area down-home neighborhoods known for casual hangouts where team shirts, baseball caps, etc. are standard and appropriate -- they are not appropriate in the more formal atmosphere of a restaurant with linen table cloths and napkins and uniformed waiters -- particularly one whose dress code does not permit such attire. I also happen to be a proud member of one of the ethnic groups you wrongly and presumptiously assumed I was insulting.

 

2) I happen to be a Conecticut-based Red Sox fan - not a New Yorker.

 

3) Dictionary definition of "lout" is an ill-mannered boor; that of "yahoo" is an uncultivated person. Both definitions fit people who ignore dress codes and wear hats indoors.

 

4) True bigotry was shown by the poster who saw my age as an indicator of intolerance.

 

5) Perhaps I should not have said wearing the cap backwards was "idiot fashion" -- it does strike me as curious that an adult in a fairly formal restaurant wants to affect the appearance of a rap singer -- but that I suppose, is an embellishment to which he is entitled -- just as I am entitled to expect that the NCL staff would have encouraged their guests to adhere to their published dress code.
