Chunky2219 Posted September 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2014 We board QV in Southampton on 23rd November. Which just happens to be the climax of the Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi at 1pm - 3pm UK time. What was I thinking? Many years ago, Carnival group ships used to show F1 in the casino, but in recent years I've not seen it on Cunard at all. I've got used being at sea for the bore fest that is the Monaco Grand Prix, but the last race of the season would be too much to bear. Has anyone, by any chance seen F1 shown in the casino or Golden Lion or anywhere else recently? Or... do you still get BBC TV in cabin before sailing? Or ........has anyone ever managed to pick up a decent WiFi signal from the port and if so, at which terminal(s)? I can't possibly last a full two weeks hoping that I don't find the result before I get home to watch the recording! .
cunardaddict Posted September 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2014 If I had the chance to be on a ship I wouldn't care at all. BBC should be available.

mariposa777 Posted September 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2014 There was rather a lot of football on screens on the QM2 in June …. if this car race is a big deal I suspect you'll find it playing somewhere…….
AstroExeter Posted September 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2014 I expect the Sporrt24 channel will show it in the Golden Lion.
Olliesmum Posted September 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2014 Two weeks ago when I was on QM2 a Grand Prix was shown in The Golden Lion, so I assume all Grand Prixs are shown on all the Queens.
Summergee Posted September 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We were on QV earlier this year and I watched the Hungarian Grand Prix while I unpacked in our room. I believe it was on Sport24.

Gazroberts80 Posted September 8, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I've noticed that Premier League football does take priority on sports24 as there is only one channel. So in the event it clashes with an English Premier league game it will be shown 'as live' immediately after the game. So you will get the full race but just make sure you don't flick the Skysports News channel on or go anywhere near anyone with Internet. I'm not actually sure if it's an International weekend or a Premier league weekend. However if it is a Premier league weekend it's highly likely to clash with the early Sunday match and thus be delayed 'as live' transmission. Gazroberts80 Posted September 8, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2014 It will I'm afraid clash with the Crystal Palace vs Liverpool game. Being an Everton fan the idea of the match taking precedence over the Formula One is rather sad. So it looks like a delayed 'as live transmission' There is also a live game at 15:00 GMT (16:00 BST) so you may have to wait a fair while to see the Grand Prix but it will be on. Gazroberts80 Posted September 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2014 This is the link to the Sport24 schedule so you can see what is shown. It is an excellent service tbf, on QV we lost Satellite occasionally (not sure if this was simply port regulations in Russia etc) On QM2 we had uninterrupted coverage across the entire Atlantic. Don't think the November Schedule is up but keep an eye on the link http://www.sport24-tv.com/Schedule Sent from my iPad using Forums
Gazroberts80 Posted September 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I did double check and the Grand Prix starts at 13:00 UK time which actually will be GMT at that time. I imagine the Liverpool match will take precedence but if the Championship is still so finely poised you may stand a chance but being the 'mighty' 'supporters from al, over the world' Liverpool I'd put my house on them spoiling your viewing. I'm not a bitter city rival ;) ;) Sent from my iPad using Forums
cunardaddict Posted September 9, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 9, 2014 There are other channels like RTL and Eurosports broadcasting the race. Why not use a tv stick on your notebook/tablet?
Chunky2219 Posted September 10, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted September 10, 2014 There are other channels like RTL and Eurosports broadcasting the race. Why not use a tv stick on your notebook/tablet? Hmmm. That's a thought. I have a DVT stick but it doesn't seem to want to work with Win 7. However, I have a couple of months to get it sorted. Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully the ship will be berthed with our balcony in sight of a transmitter and it won't be freezing cold outside. Otherwise, it would be like watching the RAC rally when I was a youngster! . T5LHR Posted September 10, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 10, 2014 Will they be showing the final of the Great British Bake Off? Vastly more interesting than a "car race"… As it was called up-thread… :D
