Dancing

My wife and I are booked on our first Regent cruise for Feb 2015. We both enjoy dancing while on cruises.

 

Can anyone comment on the venues where dancing is available on Voyager? Size of dance floors, types of music played, etc.

TechnoBill, you can visit the website to get pix of the lounges. If I described them, it would just not be helpful without reference to other ships you've cruised, if at all. But suffice it to say, dance floors are not crowded. Each night at "turndown" in your cabin, when you are at dinner, you will get a copy of Passages (the onboard "program") for the next day's activities, and will find it all there. Lots of opportunities for dancing! Pre-dinner, post dinner, and later. Participation later at night seems to depend on how port intensive the cruise.

We enjoy dancing too and have always found several opportunities for evening dancing, and various types of music. On our last cruise on Voyager, the Voyager Lounge had a great duo that could play it all, and that lounge rocked every night after dinner till closing.

The ships will always have dancing available especially after dinner. Frequently there will be a DJ type venue playing contemporary and another with a combo playing whatever is requested. I remember on a Voyager Baltic in 2013 we were often the only ones in the Horizon lounge with our favorite bartender when the Combo would come in at 10 for a session. We got to be friendly with the group and they would play what ever we wanted, Swing, Waltz, Polka for as long as we wanted. Then we would turn them loose. With the long touring days in the Baltic, late night crowds were only common on the one or two sea days. We did not mind having the whole dance floor and came home really on top of our game. Regent will take care of your dancing needs.

Is there any up to date music? For example,chart stuff.?

As far as their live music, no. In the past, part of the live music is provided by the member of the production show "orchestra." Many time the musician are from eastern European countries and there repertoire is usually dated, sometime very dated.

 

There is usually a 2-3 person sing/band group. In the past they had some very good US and Canadian talent, but not anymore. (Anyone remember Marty and Holly?) In the past few years they tend to hire eastern European or Philippians. Some of these groups are ok, but as for current chart music, you'll only get that on the DJ machine.

 

Dances floors are nice size and usually not crowded. Manly ballroom dancing, except when the have a Cabaret show or Beatle or James Bond night. Late night "disco" DJ is very poorly attended.
