BillB48 Posted September 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Four more gates that were built in Italy, bringing the total to 12 now in Panama, have just arrived on the Atlantic side. The link takes you to a 2 minute video... Only 4 more gates remain to be delivered to complete the 16 gates that are needed for the Expansion project. Something else I think is interesting, the two vessels that have been used to transport the new gates from Italy are "post-Panamax" ships that are too wide for the present Locks. I have not heard as to how or when the new gates for the Pacific side will be transported.
BillB48 Posted September 9, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted September 9, 2014 In preparation for the arrival of the next four gates the Canal quietly slipped another of the already delivered gates into the upper level of the Atlantic Locks. This brings a total of 5 gates that have been placed for in the lock complex awaiting their final installation. It appears that it was transported to this position on Sept. 4. A little closer view...
