dolfinmusic Posted September 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Hi! Not sure if anyone can help me out with this but here goes... My fiance and I are planning to get married in November on our cruise which happens to be a music chartered cruise. They will not provide any wedding services for us but we can have a ceremony on the ship and know someone that will marry us. We sail out of Miami on a Sunday, offices are closed. Will Miami mail us a license and if they did - do we have to get married while in Miami or could we also use Key West (which is a stop) as an option? We were thinking of a sunrise wedding in Key West and the office doesn't open until 8:30am there. Just wondering if anyone was able to have the marriage license mailed to them beforehand? Thanks so much!
mrstriceasnice Posted September 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Some Florida Counties will mail it to you. On their website Miami Dade says you have to apply in person but you could call them and ask. Since Key West is one of the wedding destinations offered by cruiselines I imagine you can get it mailed but check the county offices.
SarahOhara Posted September 9, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Just some FYI info. Are you a resident of Florida? I know when we got our license last week there is a 3 day waiting period before it is valid. Not sure if that is for residents only or not. if you can stop by an office it literally only took 20 minutes to get the actual license. Since Key west is part of Florida you can get a license from any county and it is good anywhere in Florida. Best bet is to call any county office and talk to them. dolfinmusic Posted September 9, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted September 9, 2014 No - we are not residents. Yes, I did call Key West and they said you had to come in person. I will try Miami and see if we can get it mailed. Just trying to avoid having to spend time actually getting the license. We shall see. Thank you! mrstriceasnice Posted September 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Thank you for the link. Can you use that to get married anywhere in the state though - like Key West? Everything I read says yes. It just has to be mailed into the county you got it from and be performed within the state of florida.
