Just Returned - Vision 09/11/14

Just returned from a 4 night cruise on Vision, from FLL to Cozumel. We went to celebrate our friends wedding anniversary.

I went on this cruise, thinking I may be disappointed with the ship, being as that we have only done, Freedom, Voyager and Oasis class recently, as was a bit worried about being on a smaller older ship.

How wrong was I, we originally booked a large interior on deck 3, but about 2 weeks from sailing, the had a balcony guarantee on sale, that with our DP discount increased the cabin price by $39.00, so we upgraded. Within 3 days, we were allocated our cabin, a d1 connecting cabin on the port side. I looked online to try an find a non connecting D1 and noticed that cabin 7660, center aft, was available, one quick call to C&A and our cabin was changed.

On boarding we were all very impressed with the appearance of the Vision, everything looked clean and new, and the additions on her recent refit worked well and did not look out of place. I was also impressed with the cabin, I was expecting a Sovereign class look, small and outdated, once again, I was wrong, the cabin was laid out just like a Freedom/Voyager class, although a little smaller, and the furnishings looked new and modern, the obviously new bathroom, with it's round sink and rounded shower, albeit, still with a curtain, was also a lot better than I expected.

Staff and service were to the usual RCI standard, with the big exception of the bar staff. At every bar, with the exception of the Casino bar, nobody was interested in serving guests, they were very slow and stood around a lot without doing anything. I thought this might have something to do with the drink package, our first time having it, but realized, that until you handed them your card, they didn't know if you had the package or not. One time, in the Schooner Bar, after waiting over 5 minutes to be served, the server took my order and then went and took somebody else's order without filling mine. I walked out, as I was only in the Schooner Bar to try and speed things up as the pool bar and Solarium bar were 5 deep with people waiting to be served. This leads me to another problem, swiping the cards of people with the drink package and issuing receipts, I understand that they do this for inventory control, and to solicit extra tips, but when getting a round of drinks for 4 people, they swipe each card separately for each drink, then present you with 8 pieces of paper, 4 to be signed and tip added, and 4 for your records. Just a complete waste of time and paper.

Drink service on deck 10 was also non existent, until a complaint was made to a passing officer, and then it did improve but was sporadic at best.

All in all a great time was had by all, at least I saved on the calorie intake, with having to wait so long for drinks.

And by the way, I did have a safe, it was sort of brown in color, and had no problem holding our Passports, Jewelry, Wallets and, after the first day, our Casino Winnings, the laptop stayed on the counter plugged in all the time.;)

Thanks for the review. I'm on Vision on the 29th of this month using the drink package for the first time. The bar service sounds a little worrisome. I was hoping it had improved since there have been consistent complaints here on this board. I know I will have great time regardless but it sounds like I need to go in with somewhat low expectations as to service at the bars.

I just got off the 9/11 4-nighter. Assuming everything is the same as our trip, you'll have a 70's party, formal night, and a poolside white party (where guests are encouraged to were white). If you want to participate in the Thriller dance, you can also take some zombie clothes but if you don't have any, they have a few things on hand you can borrow.

I didn't note the menus in the MDR, sorry.

We are on the next 4 nighter on Vision. Do you happen to know the menu order and if there were any theme dress nights or special parties to plan attire for?

As far as the menus, I can't remember what each menu was called, but can remember what I ate, so hopefully you can figure it out from that

Night 1 Pork Chops

Night 2 Roast Duck

Night 3 Short Rib and Tenderloin

Night 4 Lamb Shank
