Portable phone rentals on the ship

Hi. I am going on my first cruise on Navigator of the Seas in a week. Can anyone confirm at they have portable phones for rent on the ship? Anyone with any good/bad reviews? Do they sell out? I am debating buying walkie talkies so my mother (who will be playing nanny for my son) can get a hold of us wherever we are.

They used to have portable phoned called DECT phones for rent for something like $25 per cruise. Not sure if they still have them. You had to go to Guest Services as soon as you board because they have a limited number.

 

I've not had good luck with walkie talkies when separated by a few decks.

Same for us. We have tried cheap, expense and in between and there is too much metal and other folks trying to get them to work. Husband is communications/radio guy and even all his hacks and tricks didn't make them any better. Good luck.
