cruisin' scrapper Posted August 16, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2005 Does anyone know the dollar amount per person RCI will "hold" on my credit card I use for my Sea Pass? TIA, Ronna
Serious Cruisers Posted August 16, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2005 I know mine was $200 per adult the first day, and then each day it was as it was spent. I kept checking my credit card balance on line on my computer and it just kept going up each day of the cruise!
ga-shel Posted August 16, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2005 I believe it was $250.00. But I haven't gotten my new docs, it should be in there.
cruisin' scrapper Posted August 16, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted August 16, 2005 I called RCI & the lady I spoke with read the policy to me. It states they don't obtain a "pre-authorization" on credit cards. They get authorization on a daily basis for what you spend for that day & then charge the actual amount on the last day of the cruise. I'm just not sure about this. I know hotels, etc. put "holds" on your cc for the amount of your reservation plus a little more. Maybe I'll call tomorrow & see if I get a different answer! wrp96 Posted August 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2005 I think they only put holds on debit cards, but I may be wrong.
Serious Cruisers Posted August 17, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2005 Hotels will authorize for the cost of the room plus usually $50/night for room service charges, tel calls, movies. etc. Basically the same as the cruise. They 'authorize' this money - usually it is taken off your credit card immediately basicially frozen.....so if you view your credit card on line during your cruise daily you can see it going up and up and up. cruisin' scrapper Posted August 18, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Serious Cruisers, that's what I thought, but that's not what they told me they do. Still haven't called to get a "second opinion" from a different customer service rep, but I plan on doing it. Just curious if I'll get a different answer! :o
Serious Cruisers Posted August 18, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I know I have heard so many versions, which is why on my last cruise in May I had my laptop in my cabin and just checked my visa balance every morning....just to prove my point!! Have fun
JasonH Posted August 18, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2005 As I mentioned in another thread, I used my debit card on my last criuse for my SeaPass account and saw no extra authorizations when I checked it online. Authorizations for my port purchases showed up, but the only authorization or charge from RCI came at the end of the cruise once the SeaPass account was settled. xranger39@aol.com Posted August 18, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 18, 2005 The only card I use is my debit card. The experience I have had is the following: Every night, I was charged for my purchases that I had bought that day. So, every day, those funds were reserved and at the end of the cruise, only 1 authorization for the grand total was submitted. Hope that helps. If you use a computer onboard to check your balance you will see a debit/credit for each day. When I used my Amex card on one of my cruises, the charges were created every night, it just had not been reconciled or authorized until the end.
