Transportation Lax, San Pedro, Disneyland

We are going on the Crown Princess in Feb out of San Pedro. The family includes 4 adults and three children one of which is an 8 month old. We will bringing everything but the kitchen sink with us for the 8 month old :) so lots of luggage.

Could anyone suggest the best transportation for us from LAX, to a hotel in San Pedro (thinking of the Best Western), then San Pedro to Disneyland and finally Disneyland to Lax.

Thank you!

CA child seat law is more stringent than many other states, and could influence your decision. Children must be in a car seat or booster seat unless they are 8 years old OR taller than 4 foot 9 inches. A child seat must be installed rear-facing. Anyone under 8 regardless of height, cannot ride in the front seat (a few exceptions to this). That might affect the other 2 children too and require two taxis or a larger rental car.

That said, the law applies to cars (personal, rental, taxis, Uber, etc) but does not apply to buses. Vans (such as SS and PT) seem to fall in a gray area. I definitely recommend it purely for safety reasons in case of an accident. If you are considering shuttle vans or rental car, definitely contact the provider to discuss their policy, if they can provide child seats, if their vehicles are equipped with the LATCH fittings, and any extra charges.

The most efficient way to/from port is a shared shuttle van or private car service. The latter definitely requires car seat(s). From DL-LAX there is a bus service on large Greyhound-style coaches...you might consider that.

Hope this helps!

With seven people and luggage, you shouldn't take taxis...and you won't need to deal with a shared shuttle...Seven people is enough to FILL a typical shuttle van, so you are talking about a DEDICATED shuttle...

I would contact the various shuttle companies and ask for a quote...

Try Super Shuttle, PrimeTime Shuttle or any of the others one often sees mentioned here (Karmel, RoadRunner, etc.).

Tell them exactly what you want: LAX-San Pedro...World Cruise Center to Disney...Disney to LAX. Be specific on the ages of the kids if you will need car seats (unless you may actually be carrying your own with you). Most shuttle companies can accommodate you with child seats if arranged in advance...but be very clear on that...

They can all give you a quote based on your parameters...

An exclusive van from LAX to San Pedro should be $84 plus tip...From the pier to Disneyland should be about $118 plus tip ...and from Disney back to LAX should be $107 plus tip...IOW, the total for all three legs for an exclusive van should be quoted at about $309 plus tip--to get ALL 7 of you from point to point on your trip...

I know the vans companies like Super Shuttle use are supposed to seat up to 9, but, if you book it as exclusive, you won't have to share...and you won't have to make any additional stops...

Good luck...

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. Yes, we will be bringing our car seats.

Just one last question...if our ship arrives back in San Pedro at 7am, what time should we arrange the shuttle to pick us up?

Thanks again!

The ship scheduled to "arrive at 7:00 am" doesn't mean you are necessarily getting off at 7...

The ship has to clear customs, then there is a disembarkation process that assigns people various times...

If you're not in a hurry to catch a plane, usually figure on later...

They will typically try to have everyone off no later than 10:00...

My strategy is usually to not worry too much about the time, rather to go down to the main dining room and have a good breakfast and leave about 9:00...

You may have a little control over the time by seeing what they assign you, then asking for a different time...

And, of course, the shuttle companies are all accustomed to the process...So, regardless of what time you gave them (say 9:00), I would keep their phone number handy and update them on the approximate time as you know more...
