traderneal Posted September 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) Hi All: For the first time in about 20 years, the wife and I are taking a cruise without the kids. Just booked the Liberty of the Seas leaving on January 12th for a quick getaway. A couple of questions for those who may be in the know: 1. I have never traveled on this large of a ship before and I am a bit apprehensive. I don't know how I am going to like 4449 other folks along for the ride. So my question is, is the ship THAT huge? Does it feel like being in a small city? 2. Because we are without the kids, I have heard the Liberty of the Seas is a kid magnet. But is that true for a cruise in the middle of January and school in session. Any and all information will be appreciated. (If you are asking yourself why did I book this before I knew the answers; first, I should have, but it was a spur of the moment thing and I have the entire month of January to travel, so I can easily change everything. CamaCama Posted September 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) We sailed Liberty in January just me and the hubby, kids stayed home. I didn't notice a ton of kids but honestly when I don't have mine with me I am not in tune with that lol. So if there were kids around I didn't really notice... there were a few babies I remember seeing in strollers but nothing crazy. Don't worry about that in January! It did not EVER feel crowded!! Except maybe late night at the blackjack tables... we never waited on any food lines, no wait for rock climbing, very short wait to get off ship, etc. Enjoy! Don't stress, it'll be great. :):) p.s. we are going again Thanksgiving (taking the kids this time) so we obviously loved it! Ken at the beach Posted September 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Not that it will make a huge difference but you won't have 4449 other folks along for the ride. Max occupancy is 4375 and double occupancy is 3634. I would expect that a sailing mid January will be closer to the double occupancy. Most likely not a lot of kids. Christmas holidays are over and Spring break has yet to start. Probably one of the better times to sail if looking to avoid kids.
jailer19 Posted September 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2014 My DH and I as well as a bunch of family went on Liberty this last Jan. I didn't notice an over abundance of kids and the ones that were on the boat were well behaved. We never waited in line for anything and didn't really notice anything being super busy. There was a line for the flo rider but it was fun to watch every one on there wipeout!! The casino wasn't too packed at night, same goes for the shows but you do have to get their early to get decent seats. The ship may be larger but while it may seem like a small city, I still noticed that I was on a ship. We enjoyed the cruise a lot and would go again in a heartbeat. It was a very nice short getaway. I am sure that you will enjoy it as well.
