Early Dining 6:00pm

After sail away we went back to the cabin to get ready for dinner. Our other suitcase had arrived so I as able to get that unpacked too.

With this being our 5th cruise, we know that there is a bit of confusion the first nights’ seating for dinner. Arriving to the MDR early does not help either because they may not open the doors until 6:00pm. We were in the Blush Dining Room deck 3. The Blush dining room is AFT – the only elevators that go to the down to the deck 3 level is the AFT elevators. Most of the time we would go to the LIDO AFT elevators or if we were taking our time, we’d go to deck 4 or 5 and just take the stairs down.

Day 2 – Key West

Ship docked at Key West

For breakfast today we decided to find a place in Key West. I had read lots of reviews and many recommendations were made. We decided on “Two Friends Patio Restaurant”.

Photo from trip advisor

As we were walking to the restaurant, we met up with the kids – they were renting a 4 person electric car. They planned to meet us back at the restaurant they also gave us a couple of coupons for the restaurant that they got when they rented the little car. Food was good, service quick and with the coupon we had a choice of either a free drink, a free coffee or free slice of key lime pie… We’re on vacation, we went for the free drink –2 Pina Colada Please !!

After kids picked us up, we toured around Key West with a map provided by the car rental company. We saw the sites but I really wished we had taken one of the tours because we would have heard all the info on the sites too. It was very hot out and to walk to all the sites would have been too much.

The cost to rent the electric car was $ 94.00, from the stand in town. This was just $ 6.00 less then renting from the agent at the pier – but don’t be fooled – all the cars are kept in the same lot about 2 or 3 blocks from the ship.

After our self made tour, the kids dropped us off in Mallory Square and they took the car back. We did a bit of souvenir shopping and walked back to the ship.

Tonight was Elegant Night. DH had a nap and I went to the laundrette and ironed a few things for us to wear to later . The iron was in a metal cabinet on the wall in the little laundry room that was conveniently across the hall from our cabins. The iron was on a very short cord attached to the cabinet with a timer dial, and you folded down an ironing board. There was no charge for the iron, but there was a charge of $ 1.50 for the washer and dryer and $ 1.50 for the soap dispenser. There is a place to swipe your S&S card to buy the soap and to activate the washer & dryer, you did not need any coins.

Later in the week I had to do a load of wash and I bought the soap with my S&S card but when I put my stuff into the washer and set the cycle, the machine just started to fill before I even had a chance to swipe my card and pay. Same thing happened when I went to use the dryer. I wasn’t sure if this was a fluke or if someone else had activated the machine but then didn’t use them ?? On the last night I went to throw some stuff in a dryer that I’d rinsed out and hung to dry that was still damp, and same thing – no charge for dryer.

Dinner was good that night, sorry – no pictures this night.

That evening we went to the Limelight Lounge to see if we could get seats for the comedy show. When we got there the show had already started and the place was packed – we went in to see if there was any room at the sides or back and made our way around to some seats to the right of the stage so far to the right we could not see the comedian however there was a flatscreen TV on the wall and we could see the show there. His name was Jason Blanchard. He was very funny oh, and Canadian too, eh..

He had another show starting right after this one but everyone had to exit the lounge and line back up to come back in for the next show. It was late, we did not stay for the next show. We went to the casino for a bit then grabbed some pizza and went back to the room.

Pirates Pizza – I liked the pizza but DH did not. This pizza has a very thin crust and he likes more of a deep dish style pizza with a thicker crust. Some evenings I would grab a slice or 2 for my snack and while I was lined up at the pizza counter, DH would line up at the Deli and get either a Reuben sandwich or a Pastrami on Rye.

Hi Kelly! Awesome start to your review! I'm following along so I can relive all the fun we had on this cruise :) Is it time for the next one yet? I think I may need to book the Breeze again just so I can do all the stuff I didn't get to do this time around :)

Great review so far!

How much was it to park at the port?

Thanks

It was $ 20.00 a day to park at the Port. You do not pay till you leave. The porter in the terminal took all our luggage on his cart directly to our car. We tipped him $20.00.

Thanks Gina. This was the most active roll call I'd been part of in all my cruises. It was great to meet you and the others. Even though it is such a big ship, I still bumped into some of you throughout the week !! :D

Loving your review so far. Can't wait to sail in a couple of weeks!

I also hated!! the thin crust pizza on our last cruise!! Hope to see a comedy show but it sounds like it could get difficult.

Thanks for taking the time to do the review!

Thanks for this info--we fly from the west coast, and to save on baggage fees, always try to pack light. With two boys, we inevitably do a load or two of laundry mid week! It will be nice to avoid the trudge down to the customer service desk for $12 worth of quarters this time! Having it go straight to the S&S card makes so much more sense! Keep up the good work--really enjoying your review!

Forgot to include this about Elegant Night -

Something I missed mentioning about Elegant night dinner – before this cruise I was on CC reading up on everything, like we all do – and I was read on a post that dress shorts were now allowed in the MDR on Elegant night – they even posted a copy (below) of the notice from their Funtimes for all to see… Well I told this to DD’sBF and he bought a nice new pair of pleated dress shorts and a nice short sleeved collared shirt to wear on that night. Well he was turned away from the MDR by the MaitreD’ named Dimitri.

BF told Dimitri that he did not have any dress pants to change into, told him the only pants he had were blue jeans because he was told (by me) that the shorts would be permitted. Dimitri told him, due to the circumstances it would be ok to wear his jeans but definitely not shorts.

On the second Elegant night, DD’sBF borrowed a pair of DH’s dress pants, so all was good there. I haven't scanned our Funtimes yet, but it clearly stated in our FT's that shorts were NOT permitted on Elegant Night. Unfortunately we did not check that first. :(
