RD3PO Posted October 24, 2014 #52 Share Posted October 24, 2014 One of the vendors found a waiting taxi with two guys already in it for me, so I hopped in...and the driver got out, turning off the engine. Figuring it would be a minute or two,I didn't think anything more until it grew warmer and warmer inside the van. then the other passengers and I bang to wonder where the driver was. Tell me more. Bo59rt Posted October 24, 2014 #56 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Bo59rt- I did read your wedding cruise review(no wedding plans at the moment, just like reading them for some odd reason) andIi loved it! If/when I get married,I would love to do a st thomas wedding like you had,so I may end up bugging you for details a year or two down the road! Anyway,Cheers was $302 out the door, including 15% gratuity-they didnt add tax to that. The only caveat is that you pay tax on any drink you get in Puerto Rico or St thomas, but its like 50 cents a drink. Other than that, its all covered. To give you an idea, I bought mostly Malibu and Cokes($6) and frilly umbrella drinks($7.50-$8.75) so i managed to break even every day with about 3-4 of these plus a regular soda here and there. Anything else I drank was just a surplus,so it was VERY economical-I paid $400 on NCL and didnt come close. Ask away anytime! I have tried to be as helpful as I can on the wedding boards! Thanks for the reply about drink package, im happy to see that it is lower than what we paid last year. Heres to hoping that it stays that way in April !! sunbird21 Posted October 24, 2014 Author #57 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks again for all the feedback!!! bigdawgmatty, our driver was Sam,though I did hear ppl calling yellow bird, so we were prob at same stops at the same time LOL. My Pats name started with P-A-T and ended with N, just couldn't pronounce it!! Also (spoiler alert) she was pregnant, so hope she wasn't in casino too much! That's cool that you had a Pat too though. Aurora(?), I'm pretty similar personality wise...I actually delved into solo cruising by baby steps. First, when on a cruise, I went on group excursions separate from the ppl I was with at the time, so I wound up talking to others then-also was by myself at different times on the ship when my companions were off doing other things. Then I did some land vacations alone for the first day or two, then completely. Honestly, my first solo cruise was the best experience for three reasons, which is why I'd recommend NCL to start on solos(cover your ears CCL cheerleaders). One, I did a port intensive cruise in the Med, so I spent a LOT of time on the roll call getting involved in private excursion planning, and met a lot of ppl here. Then, I organized the cruise critic meet and greet, which I did on a follow up cruise- this gets you talking and meeting ppl as well. Finally( and why I recommend NCL) on my ship they had solo cabins with a solo meeting every night, so you met other like minded travelers. Between these three, I was running into ppl constantly on a 4000 passenger ship! I'm not knocking Carnival here- I ad an AWESOME time- but I just think NCL is a good icebreaker for solos who aren't outgoing naturally. jerrypepe Posted October 24, 2014 #58 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Just my opinion, but I bet there are alot of guys that would enjoy cruising with you. Maybe they are afraid to ask.:)
mrsfecura Posted October 24, 2014 #59 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Ok, so I've loved all of your reviews, love the pictures and your writing style! So fun! But - I've gotta ask (mostly b/c I'm a Royal Caribbean cruiser!!!) why do you "not name" Royal? LOL! I noticed it in another review too, something like "the cruise line that shall not be named". Haha - is it b/c they aren't solo friendly? Or is there another reason? So curious! :D
sunbird21 Posted October 24, 2014 Author #60 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Jerry, thanks for the compliment- haven't found any yet!! Mrsfedora, mainly I'm just bantering bc I've seen the bit of tension( playful and serious) btwn Carnival/Royal and NCL/Royal cruisers, both on the boards and on the ships. I know that Allure and Oasis are awesome ships, and I'd love to try one of them out, but ppl that I've met(and read) that have been on seem to take on the attitude that "this ship can't possibly compare." I know that there are many who don't do that, but bc of the ones I've encountered who do, I decided to poke a little fun at it:) I don't know how solo friendly the ships are, but I will say the prices definitely are not. Carnival has several sales where solos pay very little above the cost that they'd pay with another person. Even at its most $$, it's usually not double the cost. NCL has solo specific cabins as well as solo specials from time to time that I've seen on regular cabins. Forget about it with Royal- it's flat out double the cost no matter what. Again, not knocking Royal, I know it has it's fan base, but I figure they have enough spokespeople, so that's why I attempt at being humorous in not giving them a shout out. Even though I kind of did with this reply LOL!!! Anyway, glad you enjoy the review, and hope all cruise line fans alike can enjoy it:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
