jchris1230 Posted October 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2014 My step kids are coming on this cruise and I just bought Lanyards for their cards so they don't lose them. I got home and looked at my Card from March and it didn't have a hole in it. Will they punch a hole in it? If I need them to. My step kids would lose their heads if they weren't attached, they are 14 and 12. We need some way to attach the card to their bodies :)
firemanbobswife Posted October 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Yes. You can go to GS or the Casino and they will punch it. I frankly got tired of trying to hunt someone down to do it, though and bought my own. Like $5 at Rite Aid. I pack it in my carry on tote and have them punched and around our necks as soon as we sit down waiting to board. Then we're ready to grab a Guy's Burger :D Edited October 22, 2014 by firemanbobswife
thomarvin Posted October 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2014 yes they will, there was someone standing by the guest service desk with a hole punch when we boarded. Check where she/he punches it before you walk away. She had to do mine 3 times (getting a new card each time:eek:) The first time she punched the magnetic strip for purchases, the second time thru my bar code to enter the room and my FTTF sticker. 3rd time was a charm. snorkler8 Posted October 23, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2014 It seems like I've read somewhere on here that you can get a free lanyard in the casino...true?
firemanbobswife Posted October 23, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 23, 2014 It seems like I've read somewhere on here that you can get a free lanyard in the casino...true? Yes, but they are the plastic type with a "claw" on the end for attaching to a belt loop (or to the other end). Think old fashioned telephone cord that is prone to getting twisted on itself, stretching out, and breaking. I much prefer to bring my own. YorN Posted October 23, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Do they still sell those Carnival logo carabiner lanyards in the gift shop. I found those to be perfect for my S&S card. I could hook it on to the side loop in my shorts or pants and the card would be in my pocket.

They had the regular ones that say "Carnival" stitched on them, but I don't recall seeing one with a carabiner on the end. But then again, I wasn't really looking for one. They may have them and I just didn't see it.

jchris1230 Posted October 23, 2014 Author #11 Share Posted October 23, 2014 I found a pack of 10 or so at the office store for about 7 bucks. These kind go around your neck. Sent from my HTC One using Forums mobile app

Swampbaby Posted October 23, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 23, 2014 You can put it around your neck but it's not designed for that. I got the one from the casino and immediately hooked it so it went around my neck. No problem at all.

Just like the lanyards that they hand out at most casinos on land, cheap plastic bungee type.

I have used them for about 30 cruises and also from land based casinos and have never had any of the problems you have described. OP - If you get the cards punched at the casino, they won't do the kid's cards if there are any stickers identifying that they are for under 18 y.o., so try to get the cards punched before any stickers are on their cards. firemanbobswife Posted October 23, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 23, 2014 These are a couple of our Player's Club lanyards that survived. Most of them got stretched out and eventually broke. So I bought our own from various places after that. The other 2 I have a pic of here I got a couple months ago at a local touristy spot for $1.99 each. The beautiful thing about this being the USA is that you are free to choose which lanyard (if any at all) works for you. Not everyone's experiences are the same. I have my opinion on the free ones - I do not like them. As you can see, others do. As long as you are happy, that's all that matters.
thomarvin Posted October 23, 2014 #19 Share Posted October 23, 2014 i like ones from a favorite sports team or your home town. We met some people that lived in the next town when they saw ones from our kids high school. It can be a real conversation starter.

I guess that would be ok but the second ones look more functional...

I would also like to add that the free ones pull the mess out of my long hair and get very tangled. So I wouldn't recommend putting them around your neck if you also have long hair. Momofthreeprincesses Posted October 23, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Wouldn't be practical for a male but we got ours at our local Vera Bradley for 7.00 and they are something I would use again, my girls keep there house keys on there's now. bunchesofun Posted October 23, 2014 #23 Share Posted October 23, 2014 As someone else mentioned check your card after they've punched the hole. Last time they punched the end that goes in the door and we didn't discover it until we got back to our aft cabin. It was a long walk back to have it re-punched. Also last time they used a tiny hole punch and it almost didn't fit on the ring we had. So just check it before you leave the desk. I bought a couple of Carnival lanyards on eBay for cheap. That way you don't forget it. When you get up and walk away, it snaps back at you if you have forgotten to take it out of the machine. With the second ones, you would have to take it off of your neck to play any slots. Then it would be hanging down on the machine and getting in the way. We always use the ones from the casino if we are in the casino. When we leave, we just take the card off the lanyard and pocket the S&S cards.
