Tipping Room Service ?

Do you tip for room service at each delivery, or at the end...or a little here, and a little there, sporadically? I also read that cash tips to the stewards are pooled, and only the tips at the end of the cruise on the card are kept by the steward. I cannot imagine that if you hand the steward some cash that they will actually pool it with others...I think it would go right in their pocket to stay! (That's what I would do if I were them). What is an acceptable tip when they bring a simple meal?

$1-3 depending on the size of the order. The same person wont deliver your order every time, so I always tip each time.

If its a woman and she is really cute, I give her $5 :p

Sparky, I cruise solo, and I tip the room service delivery person $1 for just coffee and Danish, and $2 if I order more, like sandwiches and cookies. I also hand them a mini-pack of M&Ms. Big smiles.

One reason I don't tip room service a lot is that I think of the cabin steward getting only $3.50 per day for all his work - so I think a small tip is in order for room service for simply delivering a tray.

I do tip the cabin steward a little extra on the last evening, and no, I don't believe they have to pool that.

Cotton-Thank you. Actually, you pointed something out to me that I was assuming. My only other cruise was on Celebrity, and the room service was brought to our room by the room steward. You are saying that on Carnival the room service arrives by someone else! Then this person should be tipped! It was one and the same person on Celebrity.

Are envelopes put out for tips? I feel as though I read somewhere that Carnival charges the sail card.

Sparky - Yes, Carnival has what they call "automatic tipping". Everything you purchase on the ship - drinks from bartenders, gift shop items, photos, and spa treatments, etc. - will be charged to your Sail & Sign account. This will be settled up prior to your leaving the cruise. Cash is not excepted for anything except the casinos, and any extra tipping you 'may' want to do. Also - there is a built-in 15% gratuity added to every beverage you purchase.

It is very rare that your cabin steward will deliver room service orders...although once in awhile, they do double-duty. So - room service delivery personnel should be tipped each time, as it's usually not the same person.

Hope you enjoy Carnival!:)

I have not had the occasion to order room service much during my cruises, but I think a $1 tip is quite adequate. The comparison to the steward's duties is well taken... if the steward makes 2 - 3 visits a day, and does much more that walk a tray of food to your door, why would you tip the delivery guy the same amount? I know... because you're drunk!!

I tip for room service $2.00 each time for whatever they bring... While on mainland in a regular hotel, I tip the maid like $3.00 per night stay... So the room service $2.00 is appropriate. News Tip for All : Since room service portions are so miniscule, order double the items, trust me on this. LOL

Actually calling drunk at 4AM might put you on even footing language-wise.

Somebody thats knows how, please bring up that: " Ruin Sorbees--July toes?"

thread.

Good for a laugh and should increase tips for Ruin Sorbees.
