margord Posted November 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2014 We are on the Sapphire Princess sailing on March 24 - April 10 from Singapore to Beijing, China. We will be in Shanghai, China on April 5. Shanghai has 3 cruise ship ports. The one located in the city center is called the Shanghai International Cruise Terminal. The other two, which are located about an hour out of town, are the Waigao Qiao Cruise Terminal and the Wusongkou Cruise Terminal Any idea which of these cruise terminals we will dock? Sapphire Princess docks at Wusongkuo Cruise Terminal. This is actually on the river itself. She just left this port this morning. And you are right. It is about an hour away from Shanghai proper. sandy999 Posted December 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2014 Is there a transfer? What is the best way to get to the centre?
TravelMore&More Posted December 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2014 Wusongkuo is not on the Yangtze river, it is on the sea side in the gulf. It is in Shanghai but not in the city center. From the port to, say, People Square, is a 30-minute drive without traffic. But no traffic is a rather rare occurence unless it is an odd time of the day. Taxi is best as public transportation would take forever (over 2 hours with several transfers). It is better to get a hotel on the Puxi side as the travel time to the Pudong side of town would be at least 15-20 minutes longer and having to cross a bridge or tunnel could make it much worst. I beg to differ. I was in Shanghai in November on board the Sapphire Princess and the ship docked at the Wusongkuo Cruise Terminal. It is on the Yangtze river and not in the gulf. It is near a town called Baoshan. With very little traffic, it is about 50 minutes to get to the center of Shanghai. On our way back from the Pudong MagLev train station, our guide thought it would be about 55 minutes to get to the ship. But because of traffic jams it was almost an hour and three quarters. Almost missed the ship. There is a complimentary shuttle from the cruise terminal to Huangpu Garden which is near the bund. Don't know if it is the city that offers this or Princess because we didn't take it. They say it is about an hour but it probably will be about an hour and a quarter. stowaway2k Posted January 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) I have posted a map of Shanghai. I hope you find it helpful. "A" and an arrow show the location of the Wusongkou Cruise Terminal in the Baoshan District, in the Yangtze River Delta very near the mouth of the Huangpu River "B" shows Pudong Airport "C" shows central Shanghai, The Bund, People's Sq. etc. Apparently we can't include links to Im g ur so go there and search "Shanghai Wusongkou Cruise Terminal" Edited January 1, 2015 by stowaway2k
maryann ns Posted January 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2015 You need to post the map as a link. The shuttles are likely run by the city and they took us about an hour each way but you of course would want to allow for more. They drop you off at a great location on the Bund. diverward Posted January 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 1, 2015 You need to post the map as a link. Hello I am attaching a map of the Shanghai area. No big enough to show the Airport. It is just to the bottom of the right hand corner. As you can see the Cruise Terminal is right on the river. And it is a six hour trip to clear the delta into the East China Sea. Hope this helps. TFCRUISER Posted January 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 2, 2015 We were docked at the Wusongkou Cruise Terminal this past October on the Celebrity Millennium. We took a $4 taxi ride to the Baoyang Road Metro station - about 10 minutes away. An all day Metro pass is $3. When we returned at the end of the day, taxis came around on a regular basis for our $4 ride back the ship. There were other people also waiting to get a taxi and we shared the ride with another couple. I would recommend having the Chinese characters from an online metro map as well as the Chinese characters for the cruise terminal for the taxi driver if you do not speak Chinese. At the metro station, buy the all day pass at the staffed window, not the ticket machines. Signs in the metro were in English as well as Chinese
sandy999 Posted January 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 2, 2015 How long did it take in the metro? Was it just one line, or did you have a lot of changes.
TFCRUISER Posted January 3, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 3, 2015 How long did it take in the metro? Was it just one line, or did you have a lot of changes. I believe it took between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Our ship did not leave until 10pm so we had a lot of time to get back. Transfers depend on your destination: Peoples Square: One Transfer at Shanghai Railway Station to Peoples Square Bund: Two transfers - to E. Nanjing Rd Station Yuyuan Garden: Two transfers to Yuyuan Garden Station Pudong: Three transfers - to Century Avenue or Science & Technology Museum or Longyang Road Station (for the airport MagLev). Google "Shanghai Metro Map" and you can get a good pdf file of the metro system.
