Southbound Posted August 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2005 Trent -- By any chance are you familiar with the Dania/Fed'l Highway area? We are considering a pre-cruise stay at a new Super 8 (opened in April '04) and are wondering about the location. Have checked TripAdvisor and there is only a comment on a billing problem, but no review on the facility itself or the area in which it is located. Would appreciate any input that you might have. TrentS Posted August 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2005 That Super 8 looks okay on the outside, it was newly built when it opened. The neighborhood isn't the greatest, but it's okay, just a little old and not much worth walking to. A stay there is best if you have a car. Southbound Posted August 23, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted August 23, 2005 Trent, Thanks so much for the prompt response. We've stayed at other Super 8s in our travels, most of which have been new builds, and found them to be quite satisfactory, especially for a one-nighter. However, the one in Dania does not have web access for booking, so I called and was given a rate of $59 for 12/18/05. We will be driving into FLL from the Sarasota area and, based on your reply, am wondering if we should be concerned about the security aspect of our car parked overnight in their lot. Can't help but be a little leery due to the unusually low price for that time of year. Any thoughts?
TrentS Posted August 23, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2005 Well that's a tough question. The neighborhood isn't the greatest, but it's far from the worst too. Most likely it would be fine for a night - It's a very heavily travelled street and the design of the hotel is such that the doors are all outside, overlooking the parking lot. It's 2 stories, so if you got a ground floor room you could park directly in front of your door. I haven't been past there at night lately and can't remember how well it's lit or if they have any security.
Southbound Posted August 23, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted August 23, 2005 How very nice of you to respond to the many inquiries; and so thorough, too. I booked a room but we'll mull it over. Have read on these boards that the Rustic Inn is a good place for seafood and popular with the locals. Have you a personal opinion on this place for dinner?
