Wildlife reserve

We'll be in Barbados for a week in Oct, and am wondering if anyone can share the best way to visit the wildlife reserve. I know there are some tours offered, but is it relatively easy to take the public transport (bus) from the Amaryllis Beach Resort to the reserve? I know it's kind of far away, so a taxi roundtrip may be too expensive. Any thoughts would be appreciated--we want to be there for the monkey feeding, around 2 or 3 or whenever...thanks!
