Question(s) about Fat Jimmy's BBQ on the Breeze

One of the (many) things I'm looking forward to trying on our cruise on the Breeze is Fat Jimmy's BBQ. I read somewhere on here that the lines can get long and create a long wait. When is the best time to go to avoid long lines? And if there is a long line, how long of a wait do you have? I would guess there's not much of a line when the ship is in port, but that doesn't help much if you're on an excursion. Thanks for any tips you can provide.

It's not open on port days. Only sea days. The lines were too long on one day (wait time approx 20 min), no matter when my husband tried and the other day, it closed early due to weather.

I sailed on her in October. Lines were definitely long - but I lined up like 15 minutes early. Should have been first - but I went to the bathroom and then there were 30 people in line. LOL

Go to the aft side of the bbq station to start your line.

20 minutes isn't too bad, unless you're super hungry. We've waited longer than that for a table at one of our favorite restaurants here at home. Too bad they couldn't give people a pager, so that you could go do something else for a little while besides standing in line. Oh well, hopefully it's worth the wait.

The lines were definitely long and after eating there I didn't see what the fuss was all about. I guess I am in the minority but I thought it was not worth the wait at all... just my opinion. I guess when you grow eating BBQ and your parents had a BBQ restaurant you become a tad spoiled when it comes to good BBQ. :D

Yeah, I wanted bbq. Was ok but not worth the wait to me either. I cruised on the Breeze over another ship because I thought it was gonna be a big deal.

Open on seadays only from 12 to 2. People lined up about 30 min before opening. We waited about 40 min but some much longer.

On a ship that has a passenger capacity of nearly 4,000, you'd think that it would be open for more than two hours a day. Sounds like the best bet is to be among the first 5 or 10 people in line, but I'll have to give some serious thought to whether or not I want to be in line for 30 or 40 minutes before the opening.

It is open only on sea days but in my experience, if you go on the first sea day and early in the day, the line isn't bad. If you wait until later, everyone tries to cram into line and it does get crowded. If it's really crowded, sometimes you have to wait for them to actually cook the food you want because they cook it right there and sometimes they can't keep up with the demand. I like the pulled pork and the sausage there. Nothing is really bad though. Go for it and enjoy.

Go all the way aft on Lido deck, starboard side. Then look down to the Lanai and you'll be able to see if there is a line.

Just walk through the promenade, past ocean plaza and the sushi restaurant/casino bar and you can see out the window how long the line is. Either that, or have a balcony on that side overlooking the lanai and you can see for yourself from the very comfort of your cabin.

Yep, definitely. I would go first sea day and be at the first table by the water - aft side of bbq station,,,,just drag chair over a foot or 2 and sit and be in line. LOL. I was there an hour early and it was my first time. So I didn't know where the line formed. I saw them bring in the huge pork roast and sides. They made bunches of trips bringing stuff in. Then they cooked the sausages on open grill. Cut every thing into small pieces. Now I can't remember if they cooked the chicken there or brought it in.

Was ok, but definitely not worth they hype.

Since we sunbathe on the Lido deck, aft, we check when we get hungry. We don't bother heading down to Lanai if there is a line at Fat Jimmy's; we just make a selection from the Lido buffet.

I'm a BBQ fan and wonder what kind of setup they have. I can't picture a genuine smoker on board the ship. I might try it but am skeptical of the authenticity. I'm thinking this might be boiled and soaked, not spiced and smoked.

We tried it on the Dream + were very disappointed. IMO, far better food in the dining room. That said, we tried Guy Fieri's burger place + it was dynamite. Said I'd never pass up the dining room for a burger, but we went back, it was that good.

We enjoyed some time outside on the promenade while they set up the BBQ. Once we saw the first few people get in line, we hopped in line and were toward the front. The food was good, but I would never wait in line for it, especially for more than 10 minutes. It wasn't that good!
