crazy4cruisn Posted August 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2005 Which is the best month to cruise South America? Jan, Feb or March?
StephenJohnson Posted August 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2005 There is no single best time, really. For Patagonian / Round-the-Horn cruises, you probably want to go in the full Austral summer (say, Dec.-February) - not that it's really much warmer in Patagonia then ;) For the more tropical cruises (Amazon, etc.) from, say Buenos Aires North it doesn't matter so much. Fwiw, we went in early January (Valparaiso-Buenos Aires) Was there something more specific you were looking for?
Druke I Posted August 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2005 Try again. Previous attempt disappeared midsentence. Did the Amazon, 12-91, hot and humid. Did a South Atlantic crossing, Buenos Aires to Barcelona via Recife and Dakar, 3-00, and weather very good, water very smooth. Going 'round the Horn, Buenos Aires to Santiago, 3-05, and hoping for good weather and bumpy water.
crazy4cruisn Posted August 25, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted August 25, 2005 Sorry, should have been more specific. I was talking about from Santiago to Buenos Aires.

cands Posted August 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2005 January has the best chance for good weather. Also the days are longer. (similar to going to Alaska in July as opposed to September). It's wonderful in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego to watch the sun go down at about 11pm!. We were on Royal Princess' last Antarctic/South America voyage December 2004 - January 2005. daniela Posted August 25, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2005 We sailed late last Jan and Feb on the Infinity from Buenos Aires to Uruguay, Brazil and return to BA. Weather was hot and it did rain in BA two days and some thunderstorms in Rio. It's really luck with weather anywhere. Happy travels.
usavvy2 Posted August 25, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2005 we went in Jan. a few years back (when Argentina was on their 4th president in about the same # of weeks - talk about NOT being the best time to travel to Buenos Aires!) We had good weather & smooth sailing from B/A to Santiago - including around the horn. We were even able to tender into the Faulkland Islands - which the previous run had not been able to do b'c of sea conditions. just don't forget your coat as it gets chilly out on deck as you're looking at glaciers!
