Cancellation of emerald sky river cruise

We had our bags packed on the 5th December and we were waiting for a Taxi to take us to the Isle Of Man Airport for our flight to Manchester, when we received a call from Emerald to inform us that there was a problem with the cruise due to a faulty lock on the Danube near Passau!! We were offered an alternative of one night on the cruise followed by a Coach Tour or a full refund, so we opted for the refund. I asked why was it not possible to transfer to a Scenic cruises vessel in Regensburg to be informed that there were none available at the time, however I understand that Viking River Cruises were able to transfer their passengers by Coach from Passau to Regensburg and resume their holiday there. Overall we were very dissapointed that Emerald did not see fit to offer us any compensation other than a full refund, as my wife had been looking forward to her first Christmas Markets Cruise and was upset about the way our comments about future River Cruises were handled, so much so that we would be unlikely to consider Emerald Waterways again and feel that their parent Company Scenic Cruises should be more proactive in these situations!!

gets more ships(and Scenic,too) it will most likely remain the same.

 

Viking is so much larger that it can do switches,while the above 2 are much smaller and relatively new(at least to US market)

 

That being said ,at least you got a FULL REFUND.So they DID learn from past complaints when similar happened last yr.due to flooding.

 

We took our first Scenic cruise in June and was TOP NOTCH,compared to Viking and booked again for next yr. Perhaps you may give river cruising a try later?

 

We like to alternate between ocean and river,but with small ships,river probs,it can be a gamble.
