NYE Cruises

Anyone going on one of the cruises that span the NYE timeframe? They keep offering somewhat decent deals on a lot of the cruise lines so it's something I'm considering snapping up last minute.

I did a NYE a few years ago. Won't do it again. Waiting a couple of weeks is not only cheaper, but a far more pleasant experience.

What was it that made the experience so unpleasant? Unfortunately it's not feasible for me to wait a couple of weeks due to my work schedule.

In particular, very crowded- all the people (usually children) in third/fourth occupancy may not take up an extra cabin, but they do occupy extra seats throughout the ship, and service is slower, with longer lines everywhere.

Ambiance is a bit tricky, but it felt like I was surrounded by boring, regimented office drones frantically trying to have fun, because that was the schedule. Not really my kind of people. NYE itself was the worst I have experienced in a long time.

Since I almost always travel off-peak, I spent a lot of time thinking "paying extra for this wasn't good planning" and pondering what alternative I should have picked.
