In the South, the school year ends the first or second week in May. That said, the Alaskan cruise I took in May had only a handful of children and those were practically all pre-schoolers and infants.

Not all of the South ends in May.. Each school district in Florida sets their own calendar..

 

In Lee County Florida school began in Mid August & ends for the students on June 5 & for the teachers June 8..

 

Up in Mid Florida (Sumter County) our Grandchildren's schools started Aug 01 & ends May 27..

 

IMO early June or late August is a great time to do Alaska.. We did Alaska in 2008 our land tour was Aug 8 to 15 & ship was Aug 15 to 22..The weather was beautiful & there were very few children on our cruise..

If you are doing an Alaska cruise from Vancouver - very popular with the locals - remember that Canadian schools are not in session until after Labour Day, as 1of4 mentioned previously.
