DD quantum, I GIVE UP!

Recommended Posts

Ok, here is my story. DH & I went on the Quantum in Nov. for the 3 day sampler. We were on board in 10 min. Great! Room was ready. Entertainment, loved it. DD not so much. When we returned home, I tried to cancel our 12 day cruise for Jan. 11th and transfer to another ship. No can do. To late to cancel.

BTW I have never used RRCL before, always used a TA including the 3 day in Nov. I have to say will NEVER use them again. And so it begins.

Nov. 25th, received E-mail from RCCL, stating my set-sail pass was ready to be printed. No go. Tried for several days. No go. So I called C&A. After a very long wait. A very nice lady tells me that my cruise has been cancelled:eek Why? We did not receive your final payment . Well you had my credit card # why wasn't it charged to that? Oh,RCCL doesn't keep your # on file. Did not know this since the last 20 yrs. the TA's always charged my final payment. They did not E-mail me, but called a phone number that only god knows where they got it. Not even in the same state. They had 3 numbers they could have called. They call a wrong no. And left a message. That was it!

Anyway, the nice lady got it straighten out & now the fun begins with DD & entertainment .

A couple of days later I was ready to make my dinning res. Put in my request for 5 nights then it would not take any more. OK, tried 3 more times, it is now mid-Dec. We were away 4 days for New Years. Come home and tried to make ANY kind of res., tell me they cannot be completed at this time. Last night called Crown &Anchor again, ask for quantum specialist (yes there is one). His name is Rodrick. Very nice young man. He informs me that I do not have any res. whatsoever .( I thought I had at least 5 dinner res. and 4 nights ent.). Then he tells me I have to start over. TRYING to keep calm. We complete the ent. part. OK let's go to DD. Got 2 nights and computer would not allow him to enter any more, they were down for 2 hrs., can you call back. Of course I can I have nothing else to do with my life but to spend hours & hours trying to get something to eat for 12 days. I called him back and he asked me to call in 20 min. Because he was on his break. Call back. The computers were down and will not be up again Sat. Morning. I am not kidding you, I could not believe it.

I still kept my cool, because he was such a nice young man and of course it's not his fault. He will be calling me on Mon. That's only 6 days to our cruise. I'm sure we will be visiting the Windjammer quite often, because I know that I will not be standing in long lines, as people on CC have said they have done.

Stay tuned.

I had horrible booking issues for our dinner reservations on Quantum last month. So then I just gave up. So once on the cruise, we would just walk to any restaurant and always got in without a wait at all. We always ate between 6:00-7:00 each night. I guess the lines people were talking about were later in the evening, but we always got in without a problem at all. Hope it goes well for you too!

I ate between 8:15 and 8:45pm every night for 11 nights, except one night at 6pm in Wonderland. I heard rumors of lines, am told by people not with me that I surely stood in lines, and actually saw a line one morning. But I'm here to tell you, I never waited in line for dinner. Got stuck behind a group trying to get seated in The Grande on night 2. After about 5 minutes, someone came around asking if we had reservations. Got escorted up...and inside within another few minutes. I'm sure someone waited in line during our 11 night cruise, and I'm sorry it happened to them. Don't know what I did right. I suppose the point of my exasperated post is to say that it's not a given you'll be waiting in line. :)

Thanks Christi: I see your from N.J. We were at the Borgata for NYE. Love the Jersey Shore!

Glad you had a great time!!! I looooove living here at the shore :)

But yeah I wouldn't worry about the dining too much. Many positive stories (including ours) about just being able to go to a restaurant and not having to wait long if at all. It was a lot less stressful than making the reservations themselves lol.

This man has just stated the true facts of life onboard Quantum.

If you have a reservation then just say so and you will be seated.

If you don't have a reservation, you can book a table at any restaurant by visiting any restaurant between 9am and 4pm

It's easy and simple. No need for panicking and fear mongering.

That is my mission. And I have accepted it. I've never...ever....in the history of ever seen so much bogus information posted about a ship. Is Quantum perfect? No...at least not yet. But some of the outright panic and and bad info I've seen preached about this ship is almost too much for me to tolerate. The ship isn't for everyone, but some of the things I've seen presented as gospel about dining....and how awful it is has left me at a loss for words. Quantum is one of my top 3 of 32 RCL cruises. But the ship isn't for everyone.

I'm with you brother

Some people just can't wait to be outraged about something......anything.....just as long as there is something to moan about.

I am amazed that people are surprised that "this is so different to Oasis"! Errrr yeah! They said it would be. They said it would be unlike any of their other ships.

'You don't like? Oh ok, fair enough, choose one of our 20 or so other ships then. '

Seriously feeling your pain sir.

Instead of calling people with a negative view liars or fear mongers, has anyone who has a positive review of the Quantum ever considered that the people who give bad reviews had a different cruise date? And that unfortunately especially the Dec. 20th people could have had a real bad experience because of the number of passengers and less staff? I know the excessive lines and 3 1/2hr dinners I experienced were real. I am glad you didn't have to go through the same thing. But please don't call me a fear monger or liar.

Fact is you had a bad experience. Some of us are here now and are willing to let those that are concerned that just because you had a bad time it doesn't mean that yours is the experience everyone is guaranteed.

It doesn't help those of trying, with no success, to make dining reservations, when the folks answering the phones at Royal Caribbean say that our only options without reservations will be the buffet or room service. I'm really pleased to hear that isn't the case and many thanks to those of you who have been on board and are able to confirm it.

I'm keeping an open mind and looking forward to our cruise next week. But RCC needs to iron out the IT issues that make it so difficult to book in advance and the bad taste this is leaving with customers.

Have read some reviews from people on the ship now. They said that more dining staff is being added (e.g. asst. waiters and busboys). Hopefully, RCI will add more bar staff.

We are just thinking about booking Quantum and reading many mixed reviews. I want to ask those that were able to walk up to any of the restaurants without a reservation what time they did this? We have not yet booked because we were looking to hear about the ship first. We are okay with having to make reservations before we leave, but if you can also just walk up and be seated, that is a score. Thanks for any additional details from those who walked up and were seated at the complimentary restaurants.

This is exactly what we did every night, except for one night when we went to Chops. But for the complimentary restaurants, we would just walk up each night between 6:00-7:00 and got in each time with no problem whatsoever. I had previously tried 3 times (before the cruise) to book reservations and they kept disappearing. So I hoped for the best! lol And it was fine getting in at those times, no problem. We ate at all the complimentary restaurants with no wait.

Extremely unlikely you will just walk up and be seated right away.

You will realistically need to book either before departing on once onboard and will need to accept that despite booking you may need to wait for people to leave their tables. Lunch is different. We just walked straight into American Icon and were seated immediately.
