melinda0222 Posted January 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We are arriving to St. Martin on 1/28. We have a jeep rented. The people who are going are my husband and 3 boys (10,8,6). My husband and I have been to St. Martin before, but never with kids. I have a few questions. We are planning on seeing Maho beach. I am thinking we will spend 1-2 hours. I know where to look for airplane schedules and we are going to try to be there for the big planes. So 1. Where do we park? 2. What is the cost? We have the rest of the day to figure out what to do. I think we want to go to beach(s). We don't have to go to a beach, if someone has a better idea. 1. What beaches are going to be the least crowded? I believe there are 5-6 ships in port that day. 2. We may want to snorkel or body surf, what beach is best for that? 3. Places to eat that aren't too expensive? 4. We would like to be able to rent a chair and umbrella, so cost of those at your suggested beach? 5. I have 3 treasure hunters, any beach good for shells, shark teeth, etc..? Thanks for any help. Getting excited to be some where warm.

4Tacos Posted January 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2015 I haven't done a lot of research on this yet but I've heard that Mullet beach is near Maho. I was thinking about doing both when we're there in February with my kids. Sent from my SM-G900V using Forums mobile app
OkieGeezer Posted January 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Maho Beach is not a bad beach for swimming, sometimes it is a little steep. Next to the road is a little bar that looks a little like a boat. They have great cheap drinks and many people say their pizza is the best on the island. Burgers are not bad either. You can park in the Timeshare parking lot just past the Sunset Bar, and there is a Taco place on the Casino parking lot that is pretty good. Most of the large planes come in around noon to 2 PM. Mullet Beach is only a 15 minute walk from Maho and it is a very pretty beach with a couple of rib stands that are supposed to be good. You kids might enjoy the butterfly farm, but you have to go there early in the day and it is across the island, near Orient Beach. Orient is a great beach for playing in the surf. It is very gentle and usually the waves are small. Chair, drink & umbrella should be around $7-10. There is not really any beach snorkeling anywhere. Body surfing all depends on the weather. Consider Guana Beach. I have never found any good shells anywhere on the island, and technically it is illegal to remove them. Sometimes I have found a few smaller shells between the BIG rocks underwater near the shore just before you get to the Timeshare at the other end of Maho Beach from the Sunset Bar. gtaylor Posted January 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Well stated OkieGeezer, with one exception in my mind. I really can't recommend anyone going into the water at Guana. It is well known for rough water and rip-tides. The bar that looks like a boat is Guy's Driftwood Boat Bar with $2 beers last visit. gary

gtaylor Posted January 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks so much for all your information. Do you know does it cost to park? If you can find a LEGAL spot along Beacon Hill Road (wrapping around the beach and airport) or at Driftwood Boat Bar, then it is free. There are conflicting reports about parking at the old Caravanserai Resort being free or charging $5, but the resort has recently changed hands and information is iffy. gary
